Settling Down in Thailand

1) Pre-paid

• “Top-up” card or slip available for purchase at most convenience stores.

  • • • Suggestion: You can buy a 2-week tourist SIM card once you arrive in the international airport. This can last until you receive your work permit within 2 weeks.

2) Post-paid

• Sim card registration with the service provider will require you to provide your passport and work permit; invoice is issued monthly with fees based on usage/selected plan.

  • • • Suggestion: When you apply, don’t forget to ask what special promotions or bundle packages are currently available. Special plans may offer discounted rates for cellular data, texts, and calls.

In order to open a Thai bank account, you will need to prepare your passport and work permit. However, it will take around 2-3 weeks after your arrival in Thailand to receive your work permit.

• • • This is acknowledged by Agoda's Payroll team and we do not require you to put your bank account details immediately into Workday on your first day; you will have until the 20th day of the first month to submit your payment information

Remark: If you submit your bank account details after the 20th day of your first month, your paycheck will be delayed to the 10th day of the following month.

You can submit your application to open a bank account online via the bank’s website, or at one of the local branches (you can find them in most department stores). If you apply directly at the bank, it should take around 30 minutes or more (depending on the queue). You will be prompted to download the bank's mobile application. It is very convenient for making money transactions.
