Q: Who, in particular, are allowed to stay with me in Thailand by holding the Dependent visa?
A: Agoda will support dependent’s visa application and renewal for your spouse and child.
Q: My dependent will relocate to Thailand with me, what do I have to prepare for them?
A: Please inform Visa team that your dependent will relocate together with you and provide the following supporting documents of relationship for the visa application.
Spouse
Marriage Certificate
Children
Birth Certificate
Adopted Children
Registration of Legitimation of Child
Spouse's children
Registration of Legitimation of Child or Embassy Letter to declare relationship between the employee and spouse's children
Your dependent shall apply the Dependent (Non-O) visa at the same time of your working visa application. If they are entering Thailand with a different type of visa, they will need to travel out of Thailand to obtain the Non-O visa. In this case, all associated costs will be at your own expense.
Q: I cannot submit my dependent documents to you on time, what should I do?
A: If you would like to relocate at the same time as your dependent(s), you may discuss with your manager to postpone your start date to complete the dependent visa application process.
If it is fine for your dependent to travel to Thailand later, your dependent can apply the dependent visa once you are granted long term visa and work permit. Visa team will prepare supporting documents and ship to your dependent to apply for visa at the Thai Consulate. Please inform the Visa team 1 month prior to your dependent’s travel date.
Q: My dependent plans to move to Thailand at later stage, what do I have to do?
A: Inform visa team at least 1 month before the travel date. You will need to submit a scanned copy of your dependent’s passport and supporting documents, such as marriage certificate and birth certificate. Visa team will then prepare an invitation letter and supporting documents to send over to your dependent(s) as a DHL package.
Q: Can my dependent enter Thailand with other visa types, then later apply for dependent visa in the country?
A: Some visa types can be converted to dependent visa in the country, while some cannot. We do not recommend the in-country visa conversion as it is a complex and lengthy process. Please note that we do not support in-country visa conversion process. Should your dependent decide to enter Thailand with other visa types, it will be their own responsibility to obtain the dependent visa in order for the company to apply for the long-term visa on their behalf.
Q: Can a dependent-visa holder work in Thailand?
A: No, dependent-visa holders are not allowed to work in Thailand. If your dependent secures a job, their company will need to apply for their working visa. Agoda will work with the company on the process of dependent visa cancellation. Your dependent may need to fly out to apply for a working visa (Non-Immigrant B).
Q: If my family member(s) prefer to travel into Thailand for short term visits, can they apply for the dependent visa?
A: Dependent visa is appropriate for dependents who wish to stay in Thailand for the long term, or at least more than 180 days per year. If they are coming to Thailand for a short-term stay, we suggest obtaining a Tourist visa or Special Tourist visa (STV) depending on the purpose of visit.
Please note: The STV allows for up to 90 days of stay in Thailand and can be extended twice up to 270 days (STV will be available until September 2021).
Q: I have a same sex partner / domestic partner / Common Law spouse, may they apply for this type of visa?
A: The types of partners mentioned above are not yet applicable for the Dependent visa by Thai Law. However, they can still stay in Thailand with Special Tourist Visa (STV), Non-Immigrant ED (student visa), or they could join Elite Thailand for more privileges. Please discuss with the Visa team about available visa options.
Q: My dependent is Thai, does she/he have to process for visa?
A: No. They can travel to Thailand directly with their Thai passport.
