Atlassians lost all knowledge as the gods and ancient technology were unraveled by the Legacy.
Steeped in millennia of war and chaos, the exact details of the old world are lost to the legacy. Stories around the campfire say the world was named for a long-dead goddess of the sea. The planet now lays scorched, long abandoned by any benevolence of that deity. All that remains is the Legacy of the long-past civilizations. The world was reshaped by centuries of technology and magic evolving to the point where reality itself operates on its own set of rules. The heroes of the Legacy are gone in all but vague remnants of their names, yet a glimmer of knowledge might be found by a fortuitous explorer in the ancient ruins scattered across the world from the fall of the Atlassians.
The planet is now dry, a nuclear wasteland from the wars of long-gone civilization lets only the most hardy species survive. Project Pegasus terraforming project begins. Cities have fallen and the planet’s inhabitants have returned to primitive societies due to the Legacy unraveling the most advanced technology. The few pieces that still function become the artifacts that win wars, and solidify dynasties.
The tribes begin to work together in the hopes of healing the damaged planet. Jungles begin to sprout where long forgotten underground rivers seep up to dormant seeds in the sand. In 2489, the Cay-Opu King, Jasper II, ascended to the throne as king of all the tribes, ushering in a golden age of economic prosperity. Jasper II is murdered in the second decade of the golden age, the tribes turn to xenophobia and infighting. The Dustani tribe claws its way into power, tribute is demanded of all tribes. The tribes who cannot supply the tribute are sacrificed to the god Talohtei. The age of destruction begins.
The last of the world’s dwindling resources have gone to the tribes with the most power. Atlasians scratch the deserts and rocky soil for a meager chance of survival. The once-promising jungles spit poison at the people who seek the shade. Wars for food rampage across the planet, and the fallen become the sustenance of the victors. Magic tears from the planet creating fonts of primal fury empowering the people of Calpyso with arts beyond the technology long consumed by the Legacy. Early magic is wild and untamed. Necromancy was discovered in 3351; within a century the dead covered the planet, bringing another cataclysm to the impoverished civilizations.
The Rise of the Dustani for the god Talohtei
The Atlas Caravan forms in the Kosian Desert, the people of Calypso come from near and far and join the Caravan as mercenaries. The Caravan travels from place to place in search of food and work. The Council of Atlas was formed to lead the Caravan under the tutelage of the Atlas priests. The Caravan’s priests carry with them the Codex of Atlas, a holy relic from the times before the fall of Atlas. Keeping it from the hands of those who mean Atlas harm, is the primary purpose of the Priests. The Caravan, by proxy also protects the Codex.
Several small cities and factions emerged in this millennium. The species of Calypso band together, and beat back the undead. The planet’s population slowly rebuilds. The Twelth Legion come together as a fearsome band of Knights dedicated to destroying any remaining pockets of the undead. Calypso’s people are nomadic, pushing from one place to another to find work, food, and safety.
The Caravan crossed the continent to find a vast ocean before them. Traveling up the coast, a vessel was found. Locked in the land, but capable of supporting the whole of the entire polity of Atlas. The Council saw the chance to go on the greatest journey since the ancients arrived on Calypso. Work began to free the great ships from the sands and stones holding it in place. The vessel's ancient hull was in need of repairs taking the majority of the resources scavenged from the coast. The immense flat deck of the ship was initially covered in various weeds and plants. Under the great care of Lucia the deck was reformed into a tropical source of food through plants and trees native to the Saringale forests. Using all the powers of magic, and the skills of the greatest of the nation, the ship was eventually freed and put to sea. Dubbed the Atlas, the people now sail on, in search of silver and glory.
