Follow the steps to Making a Character, the channel #character-creation is the place to ask your questions specifically about creating a character or about any mechanics.

Take a look at the Discord Commands, you need to know the essentials, but others have been listed as well.

From there, get involved! Chat in General, watch for mission announcements that fit your time and interests. Try to post once a day as you can in a mission, and let the game master know if your schedule is more prohibitive than that so they can adjust.
