Player to Player Transactions
All items sold to another player must be book price or more. P91-92
All items traded with another player should have similar power bands, often measured in terms of silver piece creation costs within ~20% variance.
Magical sales should be restricted as follows
+1/Trivial to level 1-3
+2/Minor To levels 4-6
+3/Major to levels 6+
Magical items found by adventuring parties can go beyond this ruling, as the party is discovering an item in play, not simply aquiring it.
Magical items found by the party can be sold to the caravan, and proceeds divided. They can also be bought by one character, less their portion from the party.
You may not give items to another player without GM approval. This breaks the power curve and may lessen the enjoyment of going up, or another player who could not get access may feel left out.
If an item is out of your price range, consider requesting a treasure hunting mission in a dungeon somewhere.
Player to Player learning of Spells
Spell casters can learn spells from found scrolls or grimoires, NPC mages, or from other player character casters. All spell casters can learn High Magic spells, and specialist casters can learn New Magic spells of their discipline. A character cannot learn a spell greater than the max spell level for their current character level.
It takes one week of study per level of the learned spell, minus one week per level of their Magic skill to a minimum of one day, during which both characters cannot take any other downtime activities. If either the teacher or the pupil needs to pause this learning time to adventure or work on other projects, no progress will be lost, and when they get back to work the study time will continue to pass as normal. If the teaching character becomes unable or unwilling to continue teaching the spell, the caster who wants to learn will need to start completely over with a new teacher.
Each time a character learns a spell from another player character, the learner must spend one renown per level of the spell they are learning. This renown does not go to the teacher, it is simply spent to represent the social capital within the Caravan that it takes to convince a spell caster to share their secrets. No player character is compelled, however, to share their knowledge with another character - it is entirely up to them what it would take to convince them to trust another spell caster with their knowledge.
The value of a looted grimoire is equivalent to a calyx containing the spells written inside the grimoire. A Mage's personal grimoire cannot be sold in this way. A grimoire can be disassembled or assembled to be sold as parts or two as a single object.
