Greetings And Welcome To Our International Guests, Officials, Dignitaries, Sponsors, Corporations, And Friends To Africa In April Anniversary Celebration. For nearly four decades, the mission of the Africa in April Cultural Awareness Festival has been to promote and celebrate African and Memphis culture, foster economic growth, and enhance international awareness. Fulfillment of this mission each year has contributed to the excellence of the Festival and Events, along with numerous other media recognition from across the country and around the world.
The festival is a 501c(3) non-profit that has the respect of its sponsors, ticket buyers, attendees and Memphians alike. The organization is grateful to have received recovery related to the COVID-19 pandemic as well as public safety support from the City of Memphis and Shelby County. Africa in April is governed by a volunteer board of directors of city leaders who work behind the scenes shaping the direction of the festival. The organization enjoys the support of dedicated community volunteers who create together a diverse menu of events each April.
Africa in April celebrates the culture of a select African country, with the planned functions events and the Robert R. Church park marketplace. One of the most important aspects of our mission is that of fostering economic growth. Our festival draws thousands of visitors and tourists from around the world, positively affecting the city’s tourism industry. The festival has an economic impact of millions of dollars in revenue generation to the city.
On behalf of the Board of Directors, staff, and community volunteers, thank you for your support of Africa in April. Join the celebration for fun, food, fellowship and entertainment! We look forward to seeing you!
