Our mission is to cultivate, promote, encourage and develop public appreciation and support of the visual and performing arts for the benefit, education and enjoyment of the citizens of Memphis and the surrounding communities in the Mid-South. This is done by honoring and celebrating a chosen African country annually.
Located in Downtown Memphis Tennessee. Africa in April has successfully presented rich, cultural of diversity and talent from around the Mid-South and all 50 states, in what has become a long-running arts festival in this region. The festival attracts thousands of visitors, and gets high praise with “excellent examples of creativity”.
Africa in April’s events bring people together to create memorable experiences and forge a bond with the city of Memphis. These popular events attract people from the surrounding region and across the globe to the festival’s home in Robert R Church Park, downtown Memphis. Generations of Memphians and festival fans have made unforgettable memories with Africa in April on the banks of the Mississippi River.

The Festival is governed by a Board of Directors and operated by the Annual Staff.
Africa in April International Festival is more than its events. It’s also a 501-C(3) not-for-profit, community-based organization that contributes to the economic growth of the community, fosters civic pride, promotes awareness of Memphis heritage and builds international relationships.
In fulfillment of our mission statement the Africa In April organization seeks to produce an annual event located in Downtown Memphis. This annual festival which is open to the public features Market, live entertainment, culinary treats, educational and children’s activities.
