Dear Friends,
Over 105 people attended our most recent AEFJN webinar. Below, you’ll find recordings of the contributions, along with invitations to take action in upcoming campaigns.
Please share the recordings with others. We hope they will inspire more people to attend the forthcoming march, sign the European Be Faithful Campaign Letter, urge your congregation to join Stop Climate Chaos and also to listen back to our webinar speakers and their contributions.
The Team in AEFJN Ireland.
We took some of the links that appeared in the chat and some of the suggestions of further action and these can be seen below.
Europe Be Faithful
From the Europe Be Faithful Campaign (as referred to by Dr. Lorna Gold and James Buchanan).
We are writing to share an invitation to sign on to an open letter to EU leaders ahead of COP31 in Antalya, Türkiye, which is being coordinated by the European Laudato Si' Alliance (ELSiA) and builds on our joint calls in the 'Europe Be Faithful' joint statement.
The deadline to sign the open letter is next Monday 28 September at 13.00 CEST (12.00 BST).
The open letter has already been signed by all ELSiA members: Don Bosco International, Laudato Si' Movement, Caritas Europa, CIDSE, Jesuit European Social Centre (JESC), Justice & Peace Europe, New Humanity NGO (Focolare) and Pax Christi International.
You can read the COP31 open letter here: FOR SIGN ON: ELSiA + EBF partners COP31 letter to European Commission
Here is the sign-on form: SIGN ON for organisations: ELSiA + EBF COP31 open letter to EU leaders
Please would you complete the above sign-on form as soon as possible, if the Presentation Sisters would like to sign on to the letter?
The open letter urges the EU to bring the following four commitments to COP31:
Accelerate fossil fuel phase out and renewables-based electrification
Secure a just transition agenda anchored in the next EU budget (MFF)
Deliver on climate finance based on the needs of the most vulnerable countries
Set clear goals to build global food systems focused on food sovereignty and agroecology
The deadline to sign the open letter is Monday 28 September at 13.00 CEST (12.00 BST), before it goes live (online, press release) on Tuesday 29 September. The embargo will be lifted at 9.00 CEST (8.00 BST) on Tuesday 29 September, so please do not share the letter publicly/outside of your organisation before then.
Many thanks for your support. We hope that the Presentation Sisters will be able to sign the COP31 open letter, and look forward to hearing from you.
With very best wishes,
James
