Hale Centre Theatre - Arizona
Role : Assistant Stage Manager, Rail Operator, Dresser, Backstage Run Crew
This is Alex's first show outside of Tucson! Hale Centre Theatre is located in Gilbert, Arizona, two hours away from home. Alex would drive up and down for every rehearsal. When shows began, they found a friend to stay with whenever possible as there were eight shows total in a week.
Before the show, Alex would load CO2 and fog, preset props and set pieces. During the show, they would help move set pieces, helped in quick changes, specifically for Cinderella, and fly rail.
During one show, they had to administer first aid after an onstage injury.
Pima Community College
Role : Stage Manager, Sound Designer, Dialect Coach, Electrician
Pima College decided to showcase a bilingual version of the Addams Family. Alex worked alongside Chach Snooks to help keep the integreity of the show while also adding more Spanish to try and showcase the latino culture. They were in charge of the actors and crew, taking notes, communicating with designers and actors, delegating responsibilities to their two assistant stage managers while training one of them. They called the show and made sure the two assistants would be able to call at least one show as well.
The Addams Family was double casted, there were two dialect coaches in order to make sure everyone had support. While Alex was stage managing Addams Family, they were also the lighting designer and show technician for two other shows. This allowed them to teach and delegate more responsibilities to their assistant stage managers whenever needed.
Live Theatre Workshop
Role : Production Stage Manager
Thomas, a director in a bind, is desperate to find an actress to play the female lead in his adaptation of the classic sadomasochistic tale Venus in Fur. Enter Vanda, a vulgar and equally desperate actress. Though, on the surface, she is utterly wrong for the part, she authoritatively and seductively masters the part. As they work through the script, a game of domination and submission plays out with only enough room for one of them to win. This mysterious, charmingly erotic, and acclaimed work is a high point in David Ives’ diverse body of work.
NOTE: This show contains explicit language and adult themes.

Pima Community College
Role : Stage Manager, Video Designer, Electrician
Proof is Alex's first show as a Stage Manager at Pima, but their third show overall. They were in charge of the actors, taking notes, communicating with designers and actors, delegating responsibilities to their two assistant stage managers while training one of them. They called the show and made sure the two assistants would be able to call at least one show as well.
While stage managing, they also worked on the video design with another designer. Both Alex and the second designer used this time to train 2-3 other technicians on how to do the work. Alex specifically mapped out the projection onto the house while removing with windows and door as negative space. They focused their design on one scene with video that was made with many overlapping elements.
During one show night, the video projections began to fail. We're not sure what had caused it to fail but while troubleshooting at the computer first, all while still calling the show, they realized the projector and the computer needed to be reset. In order to do this, they needed to cover the projector lens as to not project any images not needed during the show. They called one of the operators on the phone, put on headphones, and snuck onto the cat walk where they covered the lens with a paper plate, called two cues from the cat walk, and reset the projector while the operator reset the computer. This fixed the problem; everything ran smoothly after that.
Babel is Alex's second show as a Stage Manager. They were in charge of setting schedules, taking notes, managing the actors and props, cleaning the stage before/after use, setting meetings, making fake blood before every use, and greeting patrons when they would come to see the show. During the show Alex was running lights, sound and video.
During the first Sunday run there was an incident at the beginning of Scene Two. A patron had passed out and began throwing up. During this moment they placed the actors to hold, called EMS, attended to the patron alongside the House Manager and cleaned up the mess. The actors were sent to the green room and patrons were advised to wait a few moments for the situation to be handled. Once settled, the show began from the beginning and ran without any more incidents.
Our America is a project consisting of 50 monologues written by Pima Theatre students. Students interviewed people from across the country to see how they were handing this year, especially with the pandemic. These stories have been turned into monologues and released weekly in 5 volumes. Alex read two monologues and helped the director with anything they needed. She utilized the clapperboard by stating the name and monologue number of the person reading for each recording. She helped organize where the states would go once they were taken off the board and would help to keep track of which states had been taken off and when.
To view these stories you can make a donation to the Pima Theatre Achievement Awards fund. This fund helps provide tuition fees for new students interested in theatre.
$10 for 1 volume/ $45 for all.
Student discount: $5 for 1 volume/ $20 for all.
Conceal & Carry is Alex's first show as Stage Manager. The rehearsals for this show started midst the COVID-19 Pandemic. Rehearsals were online through Zoom while the final recording was done at Scoundrel & Scamp Theatre in Tucson, AZ. During rehearsals Alex would take notes to send to the actor and director while also making sure lines and camera notes were memorized. She helped make sure there were no schedule conflicts and communicated with S&S to make sure everyone present (only five people + S&S SM) would be following COVID-19 guidelines. Once the show was premiered she helped advertise.
