Affinity is an inherent trait that exists within the elves of Aesca. It is passed down on the maternal side always, meaning if a mother has vision, then her child will also have that trait. All elves must select an affinity, even if they are not a member of one of the four elven magical schools.
Vision (Elemental affinity)
Those with Vision claim somewhere in their lineage an elemental ancestor. They're able to perceive and open portals connecting Aesca to Earth, however they themselves are unable to use those portals to Earth.
The special ability portal/find, portal/open and portal/close commands will be available to those with Vision. You can lose Vision by leaving Aesca.
Power (Draconic affinity)
Those with Power claim somewhere in their lineage a draconic ancestor. They're able to use portals connecting Aesca to Earth, however they cannot open or maintain those portals themselves.
The special ability portal/use, portal/send and portal/receive commands will be available to those with Power. You can lose Power by leaving Aesca.
Humans: They cannot understand or comprehend how it works, as the foundational magic is not there.
Elves: There are eight areas in which the six schools teach.
Abjuration: You can cast spells that protect, block and banish.
Illusion: You can alter perception or create false images.
Enchantment: You can empower or control other things
Divination: You can perceive and know information.
Evocation: You manipulate energy, often to destroy.
Transmutation: You physically change properties.
Necromancy: You manipulate life essence and death.
Conjuration: You bring things or people from elsewhere.
Not everyone in Aesca can master magic, but generally speaking all can do a little bit. However, those who are gifted are identified by a Watchful Eye of the Conclave and after a series of tests, are sorted into one of the four elven schools. Not fully understood is that after the test, when an elf is selected for one of the orders, it's impossible to realign themselves. Humans cannot work magic, except the Order of the Blue Flame that the Elves refer to practitioners of science and technology and they have no affinity.
We will remove unnecessary suffering.
Those of the White order tend to be focused on peacekeeping, maintaining of law, but they're usually not creative.
Our gifts break the bonds, magic frees us.
Those of the Red order tend to be focused on freedom and action, but they're usually short-sighted.
Change not the world, change ourselves.
Those of the Green order tend to be focused on growth and nature, but they're often naive to complex things.
It's not the path, but that victory is attained for the greater good.
Those of the Black order tend to be focused on power no matter the cost, often being selfish and with an acute paranoia development.
Through knowledge, we can shape the world to our dreams.
Those of the Blue order tend to be focused on the knowledge no matter the cost and intellectualism, however are often plagued by inaction or building without asking if they should. This is is a Human locked order.
Chaos...nothing but chaos. All is meaningless, all is made to be unmade.
The elves of the March immensely dislike the unpredictability of hedge magic and those who practice it (how can one master what is truly wild?). A hedge mage would often be considered an outcast and pariah from elven society, hunted down and destroyed. The chaotic unpredictability brings many to believe the chaos magician is a tool of the Destroyer. Those who are this way often unfortunately lose their minds and become a danger to others and themselves.
