Special Containment Procedures:
SCP-008 is classified as a Class V extreme biological hazard. In the event of specific scenarios, such as political or military actions that might threaten the facility, power failures, or loss of communication for eight hours, incineration and irradiation measures will be initiated. Operatives leaving the facility must undergo a four-month quarantine period. Preparing an evacuation procedure is discouraged for G2 sites.
Description:
SCP-008 is a complex prion stored in various G2 sites. Research on SCP-008 is highly classified and aimed at preventing its synthesis. Key traits of SCP-008 include 100% infectiousness, 100% lethality, transmission through bodily fluids and mucous membranes, non-airborne or waterborne nature. Symptoms of infection occur within three hours, including flu-like symptoms, severe dementia, leading to a coma. The body undergoes cellular necrosis resembling gangrene, but surviving tissue recovers and becomes highly resilient. Blood cells store more oxygen, slowing blood flow, increasing muscle endurance, and strength. Nervous and muscular systems remain functional for hours after total organ failure, and metabolism decreases, allowing survival without nutrition for over a decade. High blood viscosity reduces blood flow from injuries. Infected subjects exhibit impaired cognitive abilities and attempt to ingest living humans upon contact. Neutralizing fully-infected subjects requires significant cranial trauma.
There is evidence suggesting SCP-008 is not of natural origin on Earth. In 1959, a collaborative effort with the USSR was made to locate G2 sites and eliminate SCP-008. The current status of SCP-008 in Russian custody is unknown since the collaboration ended.
