I created this poster for a class assignment that asked students to research an instance, object, or idea related to the Sport/Technology/Body, and then connect findings to course readings. I chose to focus my research on the Automated Ball/Strike Zone technology which is used in baseball to determine if a pitcher's throw is a ball or strike.
Patients with different types and origins of cancer have featured in their cells a growing amount of sialic acid glycans (Hypersialylation) on their outer cell surface. A potential treatment is to cut off sialic acid from the surface of the cancer cell.
This project outlines the systemic barriers and housing impacts intimate partner violence has on women, gender diverse people and children in Canada. In addition, hopeful solutions are discussed to combat this issue.
Ms Korchinski-Paquet died after a fall in 2020 while police were on a disturbance call. The public has focused on racialization, police and people in crisis, and defunding police. Epilepsy is an underexplored variable which I find applies at the scene and in the post-incident debate. This project is towards better police policy.
The goal of this project is to compare ecocide to the Paris Agreement to determine the most effective legal instrument to address climate change. It is concluded that, in comparison to the Paris Agreement, ecocide has the potential to better ensure that States commit to reducing environmental harm as ecocide holds more polluters accountable, utilizes a more effective pre-emptive approach, contains stronger legal consequences and employs a narrative that emphasize the protection of human rights.
This project was a term assignment for ES274 where I explored the issue of the effects of industrial farming practices, specifically monoculture which leads to an increase in chemical pesticide use, and how it contradicts the concept of One Health. Using a wide variety of scientific journals, research papers, peer-reviewed articles, blog posts, and ES274 course content, I first understood existing measures that were in place, and using those measures, I developed stronger, more effective solutions to be implemented worldwide. The two solutions I suggest in my poster (international pesticide tax and internationally mandated Integrated Pesticide Management program) would strengthen the world's economic vitality, social equity, and environmental vitality thus improving the connection between humans, animals, and the environment.
Through an interdisciplinary focus on post-war Polish international relations and architectural histories, this research addresses the question: how has Polish identity taken shape since 1945, and thus what does it mean to be Polish through the eyes of a global citizen? Specifically, it looks at the skyline of Warsaw as a central component to this, and interprets three unique periods of cultural history that are reflected in skyscraper construction projects there. Ultimately, this project evokes complex histories of shifting international exchanges within Poland, and how these remain permanently fixed there, as towers to be reckoned with.
This poster presentation examines the disproportionate health implications of toxic air pollutant emissions on Aamjiwnaang First Nation as a form of environmental racism.

This poster represents a literature review looking to discover how and why strength-based approaches (SBAs), a new model for sex offender rehabilitation, are more efficient at reducing the risk of reoffending for adult sex offenders in Canada. The findings are clear that the traditional models for sex offender rehabilitation (the RNR model and CBT) work, but they work better with the addition of SBAs.
COVID-19 has introduced new challenges (physical distancing, working remotely, etc.) and intensified pre-existing challenges regarding matters such as same day and last-mile delivery, driver shortage, urbanization; customer demands for fast delivery, the growth of E-commerce, and sharper focus on ecological sustainability. This study responds to that knowledge need by achieving an initial understanding of how COVID-19 is changing/will change Canada's freight sector and where new technologies may be positioned to drive responsive innovations.
Inclusive education is internationally mandated yet teachers are not adequately prepared to meet the diverse needs of exceptional students in their classrooms such as those with emotional behavioural disorders (EBD). Barriers to quality education for students with EBD exist at a federal and provincial level, the school board level, and within the very classroom where they are to be accepted and included.
My project completed on hematite and its water-splitting capabilities for potential large-scale green energy productions had a strong focus on why decreasing global warming and creating solar fuel storage is necessary on a scientific level, but also tied in the potential of reaching secured energy source equality in developing countries.
My research regards a theoretical program that would improve the lives of at-risk children through arts education which targets their individual (academic and self-efficacy), community, and societal needs.
My poster is based off a literature review created for my pharmacology course and looks at Remdesivir as a treatment option for Covid-19. Using studies of patients who had Covid-19 in early 2020, I was able to review the literature to identify the efficacy of Remdesivir, the side effects, how the medication worked, and the next steps for expanding research on Covid-19 and additional treatment options.
We were inspired to compare the similarities between the scourge of Poliomyelitis in the decades leading up to the 1955 discovery of the Salk vaccine and the onset of COVID-19 in 2020. Our project shares the oral histories of ten current or former residents of Brantford and Brant County, Ontario who grew up with the threat of polio between 1930s - 1950s and with COVID-19 in 2020-2021.
Our research project involves conducting a secondary analysis of the ECLS-K:2011 dataset in an attempt to discover whether the teacher-student relationship affects math achievement in elementary students. In addition, we aim to assess whether students in student-teacher dyads with the same gender and ethnicity have higher mathematical scores than students in dyads with differing genders and ethnicities.
The Undying Martyr is a 14 paged graphic novel which was created to display an understanding of the comic book medium while engaging in a creative project. This sci-fi post-apocalyptic short graphic tells the story of a man who cannot die and is forced to fight an oppressive system for as what remains of his eternity.
My project examines the historiographic interpretations of Canadian Indian policy and the Department of Indian Affairs under the administration of Duncan Campbell Scott, 1913-1932. According to the monographs of six historians written over a range of thirty-two, this period of policy is distinct in terms of its aims, policies, and institutions.
This research analyzes a child's risk of developing anxiety disorder when displays of anxious behaviour have been observed, as well as additional risks to consider. Possible adverse outcomes are discussed, with recommendations for empirically based secondary prevention methods.
Tomato plants were subjected to infection and elevated temperatures. The activity of 11 candidate genes for plant defense was visualized using gel electrophoresis.
The purpose of this research is to demonstrate the many barrier's individuals attempting to obtain supportive housing are challenged with. Stigma around mental health and homelessness remains an issue within our society and this poster allows various perspectives and the many factors contributing to this problem. It also provides substantiated evidence into the appropriate forms of advocacy at all levels to effectively support this population.
In the final written assignment for one of my courses that I took during my fourth year in Law & Society I was asked to argue which legal instrument I thought best addressed the threat of climate change. After studying various treaties, which appeared to be the default mechanism adopted in international law, I realized that the proposal to include ecocide as an international crime under the jurisdiction of the international criminal court, as proposed by U.K. lawyer Polly Higgins, would best address the faults and weaknesses in treaty mechanisms while simultaneously shifting attitudes towards a more serious understanding of the threat of climate change, this realizing substantial change.
This research examines the approval of remdesivir as an antiviral treatment for COVID-19, and places emphasis on noting the limitations within the approval and its indicated use, namely its lack of definitive supporting trial data. Future research recommendations addressing the research and drug indication gaps are then proposed.
The overall lack of professional, societal, academic, parental, and public awareness in conjunction with the impacts of hegemonic masculinity reinforces silencing of male children and youth sexual abuse victims. To combat the barriers and risks preventing male sexual abuse disclosure an ecological approach focused on the micro and macrosystems of individuals, families and organizations was employed. Theoretically, existing CSA knowledge could be employed to develop a male focused prevention program centered on parental education, prevention and reduction of male children and youth sexual abuse victimization.
The purpose of this study was to identify the challenges and opportunities for technology adoption in the last-mile urban transportation and e-commerce sectors during COVID-19 and beyond. Research from over 100 sources was compiled to identify key issues the pandemic has either introduced or intensified; the technologies with the potential to solve these issues; challenges and opportunities for implementation; and implications for those in the industry as well as for governments and policymakers.
Weight classifications are used in many combat sports; however, they impose significant risk to athletes due to the harmful methods utilized to attain the athlete's desired weight. This work explores whether the practice of using weight classifications in youth sport is ethical.
This poster brings attention to the severity of wetland habitat loss in Canada while focusing on various management strategies to ensure sustainable development to increase human, animal and ecological health. Policies and actions from literature were analyzed to provide new recommendations to enforce conservation and protection of Canada's wetlands.
LBGTQ+ populations are overrepresented in suicide outcomes and many other negative health metrics (HIV, Illicit Drug Use, Mental Illness etc.). Please consider the proposed Family level intervention.
Current literature on false confessions was examined to identify common themes and to provide recommendations for factors contributing to false confessions. The case of Romeo Phillion was used to exemplify how false confessions can lead to miscarriages of justice and what safeguards must be taken to avoid wrongful convictions in similar cases.
Through an in-depth analysis of one date in four decades, this study looks at Canadian press coverage during the Cold War. This project highlights the significant events and people found in twelve articles of the Globe and Mail and discusses why the Canadian press focused less on Canadian involvement and more on the growing tensions between the United States and the Soviet Union.
This poster brings awareness to the human rights violations that China is forcing upon the Uighur Muslims. It will look at a variety of information to show how Uighurs' religious and cultural rights are being violated.
Within my research project I sought to identify the barriers in accessing healthcare services experienced by adults with developmental disabilities. A preliminary training program was then created based on the needs of this population in hopes of reducing the identified barriers.
My research project investigates how history has portrayed the 1885 North-West Rebellion. Colonial framings have furthered a Canadian mythology of the Rebellion's size, motivations, and level of violence. Older works have contributed to racial stereotypes of Indigenous peoples while upholding justifications for harmful state policies. With the emergence of decolonization and Indigenous participation, the Rebellion's history changes in support of the truth rather than the state-praising retellings of past text. The Rebellion's history reveals much of what Canadians are taught about their country's history, including what these misinterpretations suggest for a future built in rewriting it.

Quebec's Bill 21 violates human rights and goes against the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, along with Article 18 in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Often the topic of debate, endocannibalism finds itself privy to many opponents. These adversaries, often weighed down by their own biases, cite ethical, legal and scientific implications as steadfast reasons against this ritualistic practice. Through a thorough analysis of arguments against endocannibalism, an understanding of international law, and an exploration of the practice itself as conducted by the Indigenous tribes of Papua New Guinea, this research project looks to determine how far the Indigenous right to self-determination extends when confronted with controversial practices like endocannibalism.
My research aimed to investigate how Candice Carty-Williams's novel, Queenie, shines a light on the experiences of many Black women in Britain. I critically analyzed Queenie as well as "The National Council for the Training of Journalists" and Caren M. Holmes' "The Colonial Roots of the Racial Fetishization of Black Women." I examined these sources to contextualize Queenie's experiences in order to showcase how Queenie should not be thought of as merely a depiction of a women in her emerging twenties. Novels featuring black women are often advertised in ways that do not showcase their overall message or meaning behind the story.
