'At the centre of a successful curriculum is excellent teaching and learning.'
Literacy, numeracy and digital competence are mandatory cross-curricular skills within Curriculum for Wales. It will be the responsibility of all practitioners, across all curriculum areas, to develop and ensure progression in these skills. How literacy, numeracy and digital competence skills are developed in and across the curriculum will be decided at a local level and will fit with individual schools’ approaches.

Child development and pedagogy are at the heart of the Curriculum for Wales, shaping how we nurture, support, and inspire learners of all ages. While these principles are fundamental to early years practice, their relevance extends to older children, providing a foundation for progression and a deeper understanding of how to meet diverse learning needs.
By exploring how children grow, learn, and thrive, our professional learning offer empowers practitioners to create meaningful, engaging experiences that support every learner’s journey. Together, we can deliver a curriculum that celebrates individuality, fosters creativity, and equips children with the skills they need for the future.
Careers and Work-Related Experiences (CWRE) is a statutory cross-cutting theme in the Curriculum for Wales from age 3. It is not an add-on; it is central to the purpose of education in Wales. CWRE underpins the Four Purposes, supporting learners to grow into:
Ambitious, capable learners, ready to learn throughout their lives
Enterprising, creative contributors, ready to play a full part in life and work
Ethical, informed citizens, who understand their place in the world
Healthy, confident individuals, ready to lead fulfilling lives as valued members of society
Our professional learning offer is designed to support schools and practitioners in embedding CWRE across the curriculum in meaningful, age-appropriate ways from Early Years through to post-16.
With inspiring training, collaborative sessions, and unique experiences like our work with 4theRegion, we help practitioners connect learning with the real world. Whether it's introducing young children to the world of work through play and storytelling, or designing real-life challenges and employer engagement projects for older learners, CWRE brings purpose, relevance and aspiration to learning.
Let’s create learning that reflects life and inspire ambition from the very start. 💼🌱
