Welcome to the professional learning page for digital competency. Our professional learning offer includes courses that aim to inspire purposeful professional learning that enhances classroom practice. Our courses aim to combine effective pedagogy with emerging technologies to empower teachers to enrich their learning environments.
These half-termly meetings provide Digital Learning Coordinators and other practitioners with a collaborative space to reflect, share best practices, and stay updated on the latest developments in Digital Learning.
Each session will have a topic of focus, which will be shared in the Half-termly Digital Learning newsletter. To receive the newsletter, please email ian.meredith@swansea.gov.uk.
Through interactive discussions, goal setting, and resource sharing, these meetings empower coordinators to refine their practice, build supportive networks, and implement strategies that lead to meaningful change in their schools.
Target Audience:
This series of meetings is primarily for Digital Learning Coordinators and leaders responsible for cross-curricular digital education within schools. However, other practitioners and school staff who would benefit from the discussions are also welcome to join.
Session Aims:
Share updates, new initiatives, and key information relevant to digital education.
Facilitate discussions on current challenges and opportunities within digital learning.
Provide a platform for sharing good practice and successful strategies for implementation.

Developing Cross‑Curricular Computational Thinking: Progression & Authentic Contexts (PS2–4)
This professional learning session is designed to support teachers in developing learners’ computational thinking skills across the curriculum, with a clear focus on progression from Progression Step 2 to Progression Step 4. Participants will explore how computational thinking concepts can be embedded meaningfully across a range of learning areas and contexts.
The session will examine progression expectations within the Digital Competence Framework, highlighting how learners’ skills develop over time and how learning experiences can be designed to support continuity and challenge.
Target Audience:
Primary and Secondary teachers looking to embed cross‑curricular computational thinking across AoLEs (PS2–PS4).
Session Aims:
Understand progression in computational thinking from Progression Step 2 to Progression Step 4
Identify authentic, cross‑curricular contexts for developing computational thinking

This digital working group aims to bring together GCSE Computer Science teachers to collaboratively analyse and interrogate the pre-assessment materials provided by WJEC. The goal is to produce high-quality sample questions and answers that will aid teaching and learning of the Unit 2 Computer Science GCSE.
Target Audience:
Secondary teachers of GCSE Computer Science who are willing to contribute to this working group to produce a shared bank of resources to assist with the new Unit 2 delivery (A competent working knowledge of the Python programming language is fundamental to this work).
Session Aims:
Develop a deeper understanding of the Unit 2 Pre-release material for GCSE Computer Science.
Produce a shared bank of example questions and model answers.
