Research

I started my research by watching music videos of all genres as I wanted to get a flavour of what my music video could be and which song I should select.  I was looking for a track that would allow me to be artistic and visual with the song. I didn't want to select a well known mainstream song because I wanted to establish my own idea and identity for the song and not compete against what had already been created. I was also looking for a song which had a strong instrumental rhythm to it, that was catchy and memorable.  

I selected Freaks by Surf Curse because it had the strong instrumental core to the song which I was looking for, it didn't have a well known music video attached to it and I loved the lyrics as it would allow me to be abstract and artistic to create my own visual representation of the words. The genre was indie rock.  This appealed to me because it would give me a lot of freedom to be creative.  The target audience is a similar age to me which allows me to create a video that I would enjoy watching.  Finally, I liked the song and I knew I would be hearing it thousands of times whilst filming and editing and therefore it would be an advantage if I liked it.
