大島石仏山

こちらは熊本県で摩崖仏制作に取り組んでいるネパール人アーティストの方々です。2016年からこれまでに計9名のネパールの方が石仏づくりに関わってきました。日本では珍しい芸術ビザの在留資格を得て滞在されています。

この日は、東京の在日ネパール大使館から大使ご夫妻が表敬訪問されることになり、福岡の名誉領事ご夫妻や海外在住ネパール人協会の副会長、上天草市市長などが訪れ大々的にイベントが行われました。

北東インド・ヒンドゥーの結婚

　インド北東部マニプール州、メイティ族のヒンドゥー教徒の花嫁さんです。インパールの結婚式では、一般的に筒状のドレスが着られているようですが、特に、サフラン色を着ていること、結婚の印である髪の分け目シンドゥールを隠すための装飾品が身につけられていることでヒンドゥー教徒らしさが表われています。

　タイの首都・バンコクには、さまざまな背景を背負ったネパール系の人びと数千人が暮らしています。BTS（バンコク都市高架鉄道）のオンヌット駅から徒歩で15分ほどの住宅街にひっそりと息づくトリ・ナート寺院（Trinath Devalaya）。シヴァ神を祀った、バンコク最古のネパール系ヒンドゥー寺院とも呼ばれます。寺院に通じる小道に沿って、ネパール人たちの小さな商店もちらほら。

　この日は若い男女の結婚式。花婿の首に花環をかける儀礼で、ふざけて背伸びする花婿に背の低い花嫁が難儀していると、すかざず友だちが身体を持ち上げてくれて、花環をかけるのに見事に成功！参列者全員の笑顔がはちきれる幸福なシーンでした。ネパールにかぎらず、インドの婚礼でも同様のシーンが見られることがあります。なお、婚礼のクライマックスで花婿が花嫁の頸に聖なる紐（マンガラスートラ）か金のペンダントヘッド付きのネックレスをかける儀礼は、時には宗教の別を越えて観察される汎南アジア的習俗です。

Ambassador of India visits Tohoku University in Sendai

On July 10, 2023, the Indian Ambassador to Japan H.E Sibi George visited Tohoku University to interact with the President and the Indian students on the campus. The ambassador’s visit to Sendai is the first one in 9 years and he highlighted the importance of Indo-Japan partnership in terms of civilisational connect, security and cutting-edge technology.

The ambassador also answered questions from the audience and presented a G20 plaque to the university officials as India has assumed the G20 Presidency for this year. He said he would like to see more people-to-people interaction happening between the 2 countries and encouraged more events to be conducted regarding the same.

Today, I had an immensely meaningful life experience. I accompanied Prof. Yamashita from Tohoku University on a visit to a place of worship known as "Pura" in Cimahi, West Java, where I had the chance to meet a Balinese priest and his spouse within the Balinese Hindu community. I gained a profound understanding of their culture, rituals, and way of life as a "minority" group. Their warm reception made us feel like integral members of their community.

One gentleman I encountered at the temple emphasized, "Regardless of your religious beliefs, we are all part of one human family. I encourage you to bring your friends here next time, spreading the winds of peace and love, not animosity."
