We are learning about God's faithfulness to send a rescuer, and God promised that a relative of Adam and Eve would defeat Satan, sin, and death and rescue His people. 

So far, Jesus' family tree consists of Adam & Eve, Seth, Noah and Shem, Abraham, Sarah, and Isaac, Jacob, and Judah.

Instead of looking a specific person, this lesson will look at God's people as a whole. God's family started small and has grown into millions of people. These people were called the Israelistes and were known as God's people. 

Joseph and Judah's family were living in Egypt to survive the famine. Many years passed and a new Pharoah was in power, and he didn't trust God's people and enslaved them. While this seems like God was not keeping His promise of a rescuer, none of this surprised God and He continued the plan He already had. So, did God's promise end when God's people became slaves? No! God rescued His people to keep His promise to save them from sin.

God is faithful, but His people are messy. Through God's faithfulness, God called a man named Moses to rescue the Israelites. We may think that Moses would be part of Jesus' family tree, but he wasn't. Instead, God used Moses to rescue all the Isrealites while includes the family of Judah that leads to Jesus. 

Once again, we see how God was faithful to His people. We are reminded of His faithfulness with this verse:

Know therefore that the Lord your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations... - Deuteronomy 7:9
