Artist Statement - The Beast is a fairy tale set in a medieval/renaissance setting which reflects on the modern day Covid-19 crisis. It is a satirical allegory of how negative elements of human nature can manifest during a pandemic. It illustrates that the more dangerous threat or 'beast' can be people in our community, rather than the initial menace. I was inspired by the animation 'The Little Prince' as it also addresses human nature through crushing allegory. Symbols in the film were further inspired by Dante Alighieri's 'Inferno.'

Unfortunately, due to Covid, it was difficult to buy supplies to create my stop-motion equipment and props. I hope viewers will be receptive to not giving into their selfish urges during times of panic.
