The School Chess League West Zone Competition was held on the 27th September at Nedlands Primary School. The event attracted 58 players representing 17 different schools.
The Primary School division saw a tie for first place between Aarnav Gupta and Issa Majidi, both scoring 6.5/7. After a blitz playoff match between the two, Issa was awarded the primary school division first place trophy with Aarnav receiving the second place trophy. There was a tie for third place between Emily Zhang and Anthony Nguyen, both scoring 5.5/7. After countback was taken into consideration, Emily was awarded the Primary School third place trophy
The winning Primary school was Nedlands Primary School, finishing 3 points ahead of second placed Rosalie Primary School. Christ Church Grammar School finished third place, only half a point ahead Victoria Park Primary School who came fourth.
The Secondary School division was won by Alex Pimenov with a perfect score of 7/7. Shannon Koh came second with 5/7, with Anoushka Gupta gaining third on 4.5/7.
The Secondary School division saw Perth Modern School win in a landslide victory ahead of their rivals. Methodist Ladies’ College finished in second place, 2 points ahead of third placed Wesley College.
