North Zone


The School Chess League North Zone Competition was held on the 16th August at North Woodvale Primary School. The event attracted 45 players representing 16 different schools.

The competition was convincingly won by Aarnav Gupta with a perfect score of 7/7, who took the primary school division first place trophy. There was a tie for second place between Daniel Levin and Anthony Nguyen, both scoring 6/7. After the players’ countbacks were factored in, Daniel was awarded the second place trophy, with Anthony receiving the trophy for third.

The winning Primary school was Carmel Primary School, finishing 2 and half points ahead of second placed Rosalie Primary School. Both these schools have qualified for the SCL Finals later this year.

Victoria Park Primary School and Christ Church Grammar School tied for third place, with Saint Paul’s Primary School and Nedlands Primary School coming fifth and sixth place respectively.

The only school to enter the Secondary division was Perth Modern School. Anoushka Gupta was the highest placed secondary student, only half a point ahead of Rayan Jape. They received the first place and second place trophies for the Secondary school division. This result also means that Perth Modern School has also qualified for the SCL finals later this year.
