Central Zone


The School Chess League Central Zone Competition was held on the 30th August at Carmel Primary School. The event attracted 52 players representing 18 different schools. As there were very few Secondary School students participating, the Primary and Secondary divisions were combined.

The competition was convincingly won by Eu Jin Khaw with a score of 6.5/7, who took the primary school division first place trophy. There was a tie for second place between Anthony Nguyen and Chas Underwood, both scoring 6/7. Anthony was awarded the Primary School second place trophy, with Chas receiving the Secondary School first place trophy. Eight players tied for fourth place with a score of 5/7: Shannon Koh, Aaron Levine, Daniel Levin, Ezra Levine, Heidi Gstaettner, Emily Zhang, Jayden Arav and Kovi Leib. Shannon was awarded the Secondary Schools second place trophy, Aaron was awarded the Primary School third place trophy, and Heidi was awarded the Secondary School third place trophy.

The winning Primary school was Carmel Primary School, finishing 4 points ahead of second placed Rosalie Primary School. Saint Paul’s Primary School finished third place, only half a point ahead Nedlands Primary School who came fourth. Perth Modern School was awarded first place in the Secondary division ahead of second placed Wesley College.

Sana Khosraviani, Emily Zhang, Jayden Arav, Eu Ming Khaw.
