Section 15. Each school has developed plans that describe the measures that will be used to maintain 6-feet between students in the following settings, as practicable. If the school determines 6-feet cannot practicably be maintained between students in one or more of the following settings, the plan also describes the reasons physical distancing is not practicable for each setting and describe the measures that will be used to maximize the space between students.
a. School bus stops
Students are to stand at least 6ft apart and wear a mask while waiting for the bus. As a reminder, parents are responsible for their child’s safety while going to and from the bus stop, and while waiting for the school bus. Supervision at the bus stop and ensuring appropriate behavior is a parent’s responsibility.
b. School buses
Face coverings: While riding the bus, students must wear a face covering at all times. Each bus will be equipped with extra unused face coverings for students who may have inadvertently failed to bring one.
Seating: Each student will have an assigned seat. To the extent possible, seats will be filled from back to front when boarding the bus. Students will be seated, one student per seat, in alternating positions. (See diagram)
Check for signs and symptoms: Bus drivers will NOT conduct a daily symptom and temperature screen before students board the bus. Each BUSD school site will require a daily symptom and temperature screening of all students, staff, and visitors prior to admititting them to the facility. Parents should not send their child to the bus stop if exhibiting the following COVID-19 symptoms:
Fever, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, chills, repeated shaking with chills, fatigue, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, congestion, runny nose, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, new loss of taste or smell. See Category 9 "Check for Signs and Symptoms" of the Reopening Plan for a full description of protocols.
Vehicle Cleaning/Sanitation: Buses will be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected daily, between routes, and after transporting any individual who is exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19. Drivers will be provided disinfectant wipes and disposable gloves to support disinfection of frequently touched surfaces during the day.
Other Safety Protocols: In order to introduce fresh outdoor air as much as possible, bus windows will be open where and when practicable. Hand sanitizer will be available for students upon entering and exiting the bus.
c. During daily symptom and temperature screening of students
Parents will be required to adhere to agreement/affidavit related to child health for school attendance. Have backup plan that involves observation of student when at school and temperature check.
d. While students are entering campus and waiting for their first class to begin
Waiting time will be limited so that students go directly to their classrooms.
e. During meal periods
Each school site will identify assigned seating areas for students. Areas will be clearly marked for social distancing.
f. During recess
To be determined
g. During passing periods
To be determined
h. Classrooms and other instructional spaces
Student desks will be distanced at least six feet away from other students, the teacher's desk, and other staff desks.
i. Restrooms
Each school site will develop restroom protocols and assignments based on classroom location. Waiting areas will be clearly marked inside and outside for appropriate social distancing.
k. While students are exiting the campus
Students will use the social distancing guidelines outlined by the district.
l. Before and after-school programs
Each school site hosting before and/or after school programs will develop a plan for student monitoring and transfer during the day that adheres to social distancing guidelines.
m. Extracurricular and co-curricular programs
To be determined
Section 16. Each school in the Bonsall Unified School District will use the following scheduling measures to the greatest extent practicable:
a. Stagger arrival and departure times and locations as consistently as practicable as to minimize scheduling challenges for families.
Consider changing the dismissal time for Kinder students, and structure the release of students by grade level to minimize their interactions.
b. Designate routes for entry and exit, using as many entrances as feasible.
Clearly identify and mark entrance and exit routes throughout the campus.
c. Put in place other protocols to limit direct contact with others as much as practicable
Clearly identify and mark traveling routes throughout the campus.
Section 17. Each school in the Bonsall Unified School District has a plan to limit student mixing using the following measures to the greatest extent practicable:
a. Students will remain in the same space and in groups as small and consistent as practicable, keeping the same students and teacher or staff with each group, to the greatest extent practicable, including recess and lunch. Use and maximize outdoor space for activities where practicable.
b. Minimize movement of students and teachers or staff as much as practicable. For example, consider ways to keep teachers with one group of students for the whole day. In secondary schools or in situations where students have individualized schedules, plan for ways to reduce mixing among cohorts and to minimize contact.
c. Activities will be redesigned for smaller groups. Furniture and play spaces will be rearranged to maintain separation.
d. Staff will develop instructions for maximizing spacing and ways to minimize movement in both indoor and outdoor spaces that are easy for students to understand and are developmentally appropriate.
e. Staff will implement procedures for turning in assignments to minimize contact.
f. Minimize congregate movement through hallways as much as practicable. For example, school sites will establish multiple ways to enter and exit a campus, and stagger passing times when necessary or when students cannot stay in one room.
g. Consider holding recess activities in separated areas designated by class.
h. Limit the use of common use areas such as cafeterias, dining areas, libraries, and locker rooms where practicable. Alternatively, stagger use, properly space occupants, and disinfect in between uses.
i. Serve meals in classrooms or outdoors instead of cafeterias or group dining rooms where practicable. Serve individually plated or bagged meals. Avoid sharing of foods and utensils and buffet or family-style meals.
j. Limit nonessential visitors, volunteers and activities involving other groups at the same time.
k. Activities where there is increased likelihood for transmission from contaminated exhaled droplets such as bandand choir practice and performances are not permitted. Activities that involve singing must only take place outdoors.
l. Use privacy board or clear screens to increase and enforce separation between staff and students.
Section 18. The following outlines Bonsall Unified School District's plan to maximize space between seating and desks.
The teacher and other staff desks are to be at least six feet (6') away from student desks. Per the California Department of Public Health guidelines and San Diego County Office of Education guidelines, each school is to establish separation of students through other means if practicable, such as, six feet between desks, partitions between desks, markings on classroom floors to promote distancing or arranging desks in a way that minimizes face-to-face contact.
a. How space will be maximized in:
i. Classrooms: Social distancing of 6’ between student’s desks/chairs will be implemented within each BUSD classroom or other indoor space such as a library. Square footage can vary from one classroom to the next, along with built in furniture, which may impact the number of students we are able to place in a classroom. In classrooms where the square footage is smaller than a typical classroom or if there is built in furniture taking up a portion of the classroom space, the number of students will be adjusted accordingly. The constant is that students’ desks/chairs will remain 6’ apart in order to implement social distancing.
Due to the variances described above, each school plan will have a list of all classrooms, along with the maximum number of students we are able accommodate while maintaining social distancing between desks or chairs of 6’.
ii. School buses: 6’ of social distancing
iii. Other settings: 6’ of social distancing in all other settings.
b. The criteria used to determine if other measures such as the installation of plexiglass or other barriers are necessary.
c. Situations in employees cannot maintain physical distancing with students and the protective measures that will be employed.
