Whilst visiting the Lifeboat station a shout went out. 2 people in the sea needing urgent assistance. Happy to say, that they were safely rescued and again demonstrates have brave the crew are and what a vital service they provide.

Our Brigaders tonight who did a bake sale to raise money for the Malala Fund, specifically for the Syrian refugees in Turkey so they can continue their education.
The girls got a special message from Malala herself who has heard about the bake sale and has said hello to the girls!! £150 was raised over the 2 nights.

With 2020 being a difficult year and our Brigades struggling to meet, we also found many of our local charities were struggling. Our BB Captain run a Half Marathon around Wootton and Marston Moretaine, to raise vital funds to try and help SAVE ZSL from extinction. This Charity started in 1826 launched a National Campaign to help save its 2 Zoos at London and Whipsnade. Our Captain added just over £300 to the total.

food bank and essentials for babies, and to Julius to fund sanitary products for girls in Uganda.

We cannot take the credit for this, as One of our members and his mum organised a Bring and Buy sale which was held at our church. It was a fantastic achievement to raise an amazing £268.52 and we are very proud of him for his initiative and putting 'Others First'

As part of the GB 125th Anniversary, and its challenge #GBRaisesHope, Our GB Captain, Nicola, challenged herself to a long distance challenge and to raise £125 for a great cause. We chose the British Heart Foundation and there 50km Bike Ride around Milton Keynes and surrounding villages.

It was a most picturesque route, on a baking hot day, but perseverance won through and the challenge was completed in around 4 & 1/2 hours.

York Mind is an independent provider of high quality mental health services in York and its surrounding area.Our wide range of services help individuals as they recover from a variety of mental health conditions. We are a leading local provider of services supporting individuals recovering from mental ill-health to achieve outcomes that will progress them towards recovery, social inclusion and integration in mainstream activity such as learning, volunteering or employment.
We believe that the condition does not define the individual. To that end, we campaign to raise awareness of mental ill health and combat the stigma surrounding mental health conditions.

Originally established in 1954, BDCPS is a small local charity which provides playschemes and youth clubs for disabled young people (aged 0 to 25) in addition to critical support and funding to families, parents and carers.
At BDCPS we focus on ABILITY rather than disability. We go to great lengths to ensure all clubs are inclusive, creative, inspiring and empowering.

Our 2016 Summer Challenge
Every member BB/GB made a collection pot and placed it by their Toilet. Idea being, everytime you used the loo, you popped a penny into the box. Boxes Issued 15th July and were collected and counted on return in Sept. A total of £40 has been raised for this cause.
Toilet Twinning funds the work of Tearfund partners globally to provide people in the poorest communities on the planet with a decent toilet, clean water and all the information they need to stay healthy. It’s the key to helping whole communities break free of the poverty trap.

Each Summer all the groups of the BB & GB do Litter Picks around the village, over 2 nights
2016: The GB collected rubbish around the Recreation Ground / Bedford Road, The BB went along Cause End Road to St Marys' Church and the War Memorial and then Tithe Barn Road.
There were many plastic bottles, tin cans, wrappers, plastic and even some dangerous bits of rubbish found. Many bin bags filled.
2017: The GB collected rubbish around the St. Marys Rd, Recreation Ground / Bedford Road, the BB went along Cause End Road to St Marys' Church and the War Memorial and then Tithe Barn Road, The Rec, Lorraine Road
8 Full bags of rubbish were filled , including many plastic bottles, tin cans, wrappers, plastic, shoes, rope, and even some dangerous (sharp & jagged) bits of rubbish found. Many bin bags filled.
2018: The GB collected rubbish around the St. Marys Rd, Recreation Ground / Bedford Road, the BB went along Popes Way, past the Cemetery and over the field to Keely Lane, then along to the Upper School (including clearing out the ditches), Tithe Barn Road and back to the Church

2019: The GB collected rubbish around Potters Cross and the new Fields Roads Development by the Harris Way Lower School. The BB went in 2 directions, one being the road to the Rec Ground and that site and the other along Popes Way, Lorraine Road, to the dog field behind. There were many items hiding in the ditches, including many bottles and a lawn mower cutter/blades. now safely removed. 9 Full bags of rubbish were filled.
All rubbish now removed and disposed of properly. Well done to both Brigades on a great tidy up of our Village.
2020: During the 2020 Lockdown, our BB Captain went out weekly to collect Rubbish from various routes around our Village. Over 25 bags were filled to bursting, including many bottles, cans & sharp objects.

At our Harvest Festival Church Service, every member is encouraged to bring a 'tin' in. The gifts will be taken afterwards to the Prebend Day Centre.
As a registered charity, Bedford Concern for the Homeless and Rootless (BeCHaR) has been running The Prebend Day Centre since 1993. We take a holistic approach to helping individuals take the next step towards reintegration into the local community. We achieve this through our drop-in centre and support team, which is available to vulnerable men and women (individuals in crisis) aged 16 and over.

Every member is to be encouraged to bring an item for our shoe boxes. We aim to create 1 per age group, 2-4, 5-10, 11-14 for both Boys and Girls, so 6 boxes in total. These will then go to the Global OCC Effort.

On Saturday 22nd Jan 2022, members of 1st Wootton joined our village to plant 70 trees as part of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee Green Canopy. One of our Juniors, Dylan Castle also assisted HM Lord-Lieutenant of Bedfordshire Helen Nellis, to plant the first tree.
