In accordance with the work we are doing, we went to visit, with our coordinator Diana, an ecological and permaculture center called "THE BHUMI PROJECT"
At the beginning it was difficult to find the place and Fabio, one of the creators of the project, went to rescues us
He is Fàbio and he gave us a tour of the place with explanations on how this project works and why it was created.
BUT LET'S TALK ABOUT IT IN THE DETAILS
As you will find out on the web page PROJECT BHUMI, extension of Restaurante Gosto Superior, is an initiative of social and ecological responsibility, which aims to give back to the Earth and the Earth, all the gifts they offer us, thus creating a virtuous circle and paying our debt with the planet dissipating as our ecological footprints.
Unfortunately I didn't take pictures of the bathroom, this is a random photo found on the internet, but the look is the same.
How it works?
The ecological dry toilet, known as compost toilets, does not require the use of water.
Once the lid is opened, we find a filler for urine with a conduit connected to the outside or simply to a tank. This way, you can easily get rid of liquids.
To the side, however, there is a larger space dedicated to solid waste. There, we will dispose of sawdust, earth or any other dry material that prevents the appearance of odors and is easy to clean. This container is removable, as it is a transportable bucket.
and most importantly, it collects and transforms human feces into a compound that can be used as an organic fertilizer
After the explanation, we split into two groups:
The FIRST TEAM went to cook the lunch
Personally I really enjoyed the food, especially the dessert.
I asked for the recipe but rightly he could not give it to me because they serve the same dessert at the restaurant, but still...
The second team, where I was, decided to help planting plants and fruits!
It was a new experience and I must say gratifying, knowing that we are helping to restore the natural balance without just exploiting the earth as we are used to, is priceless
Hope everyone will have a chance to go in Braga and visit this beatiful place
where the human being tries to respect nature
Hello again!
We had the opportunity to came back to the BHumi project, part of the Overcoming the challenge project (ERASMUS).
We learned more about permaculture, the ecosystem of a garden, composting and water conservation. Also we have contributed to the planting of vegetables.
Our deep thanks to Fábio and Viviane for the great hospitality, the explanation on how the Bhumi project works and the wonderful cuisine.
I didn't know vegetarian cuisine could be this good
The new volunteers had the occasion to learn more about permaculture and the concept behind it.
We learn about the ecosystem of a garden, composting and water conservation.
The aim of the Bhumi project, Fàbio said, it's to give back what they, humans, had taken from the Earth
It was an amazing experience, let's hope to return to the Bhumi project again!
