ERADICATION OF POVERTY BY 2030
ERADICATION OF POVERTY BY 2030
WHAT IS POVERTY?
DEPRIVATION,LACK OF EVERYTHING THAT ALLOWS A PERSON,A COMMUNITY TO LIVE A DECENT LIFE(lack of food,water,sanitation,education,opportunity,...)
HERE some facts about poverty all around the world
There are 2.2 billion children in the world, and 1 billion of them live in poverty.
A person living in Italy with less than 657 euros per month is considered poor.
Portugal is one of the most unequal countries in Europe. The wealthy citizens earn an income that is five times higher than other people who are living in poverty.
Africa is by far the poorest continent on the planet. 28 of the world’s poorest countries are African and two in five African adults are illiterate. While the continent’s number of schools are increasing, the quality of learning and general attendance is still down due to local violence and gender oppression
And the list can go on...
OF COURSE THE LEVEL OF POVERTY IS DIFFERENT BETWEEN COUNTRIES-POVERTY IN ASIA IS NOT THE SAME POVERTY WE CAN FIND IN EUROPE OR USA BUT STILL, EVERYBODY SHOULD HAVE EQUAL ACCESS TO BASIC RESOURCES AND EQUAL OPPORTUNITY!
In September 2015, 193 countries came together at the United Nations to adopt and commit to a long-term, comprehensive strategy to tackle the world’s greatest challenges related to global sustainable development.
The result was the SDGs, United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals ,a list of 17 goals to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all by 2030.
END POVERTY IS THE 1st GOAL
And these are the priority actions:
improving access to sustainable livelihoods, entrepreneurial opportunities and productive resources;
providing universal access to basic social services;
progressively developing social protection systems to support those who cannot support themselves;
empowering people living in poverty and their organizations;
addressing the disproportionate impact of poverty on women;
working with interested donors and recipients to allocate increased shares of ODA(Official Development Assistence) to poverty eradication;
intensifying international cooperation for poverty eradication.
HOW CAN WE HELP?
AND US AS VOLUNTEERS WHAT ARE WE DOING?
First of all inform yourself,not only about news of far away country but also how is poverty in your country,in your city and decide how you can help and how you can make a difference.
We as humans created these injustices and I firmly believe that we can ended it.
This is a video that we,volunteers in Braga made, interviewing people, talking with our friends and relatives.
"What is poverty for you?" We asked.
"Did you face any financial problems?"
These were some of our question and it's interesting to see the different point of view,starting from the kids to the adults.
There were not correct answer,only the will to share their story
So returning to the question of what we have done here as a volunteers:
We made people reflect about poverty,questioning how they are living and how can they help,sharing their own stories.
HOPE THAT THIS WILL HELP YOU UNDERSTAND THAT POVERTY IS A PROBLEM THAT CONCERN EVERYBODY!
