The design department of an industry is a key employment area for diploma engineers. Fundamental knowledge of Strength of Materials, Engineering Materials, and Computer-Aided Design and Drafting is crucial to meet the job requirements in this sector. To prepare students for this field, they must be equipped with the skills to design simple machine elements, understand procedures involved in product development, and have a foundational grasp of designing components such as shafts, springs, and couplings. Additionally, familiarity with codes, norms, standards, and guidelines for selecting appropriate materials is essential. Diploma engineers must also be proficient in reading and interpreting drawings, as well as preparing drawings of machine parts. This course aims to develop students' analytical abilities to solve basic engineering design problems using standard procedures. It emphasizes providing practical learning experiences that enable students to apply fundamental principles to design solutions for real-world problems, thereby developing the necessary skills and competencies.
Interpret the principles of product design based on strength, Aesthetic and Ergonomic considerations.
Design simple machine elements like shafts, springs, couplings and knuckle joints.
Develop CAD Parts and Assembly drawings for couplings and knuckle joints based on designed parameter system.
Construct Components based on designed Parameters using 3-D Printing Technique.
Discuss case studies of product development by using video
Discuss case studies related to general considerations in design based on functional requirement, effect on environment, manufacturing process etc.
Case Study on Ergonomics and Aesthetic design principles.
Validate the Problems on Shafts for Strength and Rigidity using Ansys
Draw the given cylinder front view, sectional top view and true shape of the section
Draw the given cone front view, sectional top view and true shape of the section
Draw the given prism front view, sectional top view and true shape of the section
