Joseph is a teacher-librarian with experience from K-12. He has been a teacher-librarian since 2013 and has a background in computer science and math. Before becoming a teacher he worked briefly in ICT as a help desk employee and brings his tech skills to his job. He has a long history with the internet as detailed below. He loves reading, board games, hiking, and strange metaphors exploring the intersection of humans and technology.
Jacquie Strom is a grade six and seven teacher. She has been teaching for nine years in a variety of positions including teaching on call, grade one and two , and a music teacher. Jacquie enjoys collaborating with others, and has co-taught grade seven with another teacher for the past five years. This is Jacquie’s second year at her current school. She is fortunate to have regular access to a class set of chromebooks and some iPads to help facilitate many different technology projects in her classroom.
Darren Dornstauder is currently a grade 7-9 teacher. He has been teaching for six years at both the middle school and high school level teaching a wide range of subject areas including math, social studies, and science in the area of Special Education. For the past four years, Darren has mostly taught health and physical education, kinesiology, and science. Darren is passionate about developing positive physical activity experiences while enabling students with the appropriate knowledge and skills in order to promote lifelong engagement and enjoyment in healthy and physically active lifestyles. He is continuously searching for and implementing new ways to infuse the use of technology into his teaching to help engage students through their learning experiences.
Shannon Thiessen Burton has been teaching for 10 years, primarily in Canada, Bangladesh and Cambodia. Nine of those years were as a classroom teacher for grades 5 through 12 across a range of subject areas, but primarily Math and Science. She has taught in a range of public and private schools, from a rural, two-room schoolhouse to an elite international IB school. In her tenth teaching year, Shannon embarked on an exciting career shift and accepted a position as a full-time Teacher-Librarian at a private school in Cambodia. She is loving this new role as it provides the space to be creative in promoting a love of reading and learning, combined with her passion for building critical thinking as a part of multimedia literacy.
