Valentine's Day is coming! Here's a fun video about how to make your own cards, plus guides to two simple crafts--Paper Plate Sculptures and Snowflakes--for days when the weather has the family stuck inside.
Welcome to winter! I hope everyone is enjoying the snow! Here are three art activities you can do for fun at home. I would love to see them when you finish--just post on your Seesaw or Google Art Classroom! --Ms. Adams
Take an art-filled storytime break with this book about learning to paint: Harriet Ziefert's Lunchtime for a Purple Snake
Inspire your budding artists (and Wimpy Kid fans) with Now & Then, a lovely website from the Eric Carle Museum! It combines photos of illustrators when they were young with examples of their childhood art and their published work.
Activity: We will be created a schoolwide project of a colored “glass” chandelier inspired by Chihuly and his glass sculptures.
1. Find any cylindrical plastic bottle. A water bottle is best, but you can use a 2-liter soda bottle, a milk jug, a peanut butter container, etc… *ALL CONTAINERS MUST BE CLEANED OUT WITH SOAP AND WATER FIRST. Chihuly used bright colors in his colored glass. We will be studying the color concepts of “Warm” and “Cool”/cold color groups. WARM colors remind us of the sun and fire. They are colors like red, yellow, orange, pink. COOL colors remind us of cool/cold water, grass, and a grape popsicle. They are colors like blue, green, and purple.
2. Try to make either a "warm" colored bottle or a "cool" colored bottle. Use any permanent or semi -permanent art media to decorate. “Media” is the art material used to draw or paint on the plastic bottle. Examples of permanent or semi-permanent materials are Sharpie Markers, oil pastels, acrylic paint, and enamel paint. You may decorate by putting the paint inside of the bottle and shake or simply apply on the outside of the bottle. You may use patterns such as dots stripes, or spirals just like Dale Chihuly!
3. Once finished and dry, give to Mrs. Adams to see and to add to the school chandelier. Good luck and have fun!
