CREDIT RECOVERY PROCEDURE

Students who receive a final grade of “F” in a course required for graduation must either attend an accredited and VHS administratively approved summer program at their own expense or repeat the course. A summer program remedial course must consist of at least 60 hours of instruction and may extend to as many as 120 hours of instruction.

Students who lose credit due to excessive absences may also attend summer school or repeat the course. In either case, the student must pass the course in which they lost credit. Meaning if a student loses credit due to attendance and does not pass the course, the student is not eligible to restore credit through summer school. Students who fail a course and lose credit due to attendance must repeat the course during the following school year.

In order to be eligible for summer school, a student must remain in a course to its completion. A student who is dismissed from a class because of disciplinary reasons prior to the conclusion of a course, is not permitted to attend a summer program to make it up.

**Students are only permitted take two summer school courses a year.
