SCI-PHY

WHAT'S HAPPENING IN SCI-PHY?

Infectious Disease Skits

In this project, students applied their learning of disease prevention, chronic and infectious diseases, pathogens that cause disease and their own knowledge on what it's like to go to the doctor.

Placed in groups of 4, students were assigned a random infectious disease. Their job was to research the disease, create a website about their disease including information on how it is contracted, what bacteria causes the disease, where in the world it can be contracted, treatment options, as well as signs and symptoms of that disease.

Students then performed a skit on Zoom modeling a Telehealth appointment for what it would like look, feel like, and sound like if a patient suffering from their assigned disease were to go to the doctor. Students played the roles of Doctor, Patient, Nurse and Scribe and used their own knowledge of what it's like to go to the doctor to act out their skit.

Students took vitals, gave symptoms, discussed treatment options as well as alternative methods of treatment, and shared their Google Site with the patient so they could learn more about their disease.
