Food

In 2024 the college cafeteria was moved in house, allowing us to make significant improvements to its carbon footprint.

Local sourcing:

The cafeteria relies on local suppliers wherever possible, hugely reducing the air miles and carbon footprint of the food we serve. Local suppliers include TG Fruits in Hollingbury, Blake’s Butchers in Brighton and Wholesome Fine Foods in Peacehaven.

Plant based food:

As more of the college community change their diets to be plant based, the cafeteria has reacted accordingly. Every day students can choose a vegan wrap, main meal, cake or jacket potato, and the vegan sausage rolls are one of the most popular menu items!

Low waste:

The cafeteria is now free of single use plastic. Bamboo cutlery, plant based food trays and paper bags have replaced bulkier plastic items. Individual sauce sachets have been replaced with large sauce pumps. Although the cafeteria produces very little food waste, there are food waste bins in the kitchen and staff room, with the aim to provide these in additional locations around the college.
