Van Riper Ellis Christian School is a ministry of the Van Riper Ellis Broadway Baptist Church. VRECS approaches Christian Education with developmentally appropriate practices that foster our students learning with a monthly bible verse, a weekly bible story time, arts and crafts and saying a blessing before meals. Christian Education is touched upon in every facet of our day and fosters Character Development including but not limited to integrity, honesty, loyalty, respectfulness, responsibility, compassion, fairness, forgiveness, generosity and kindness.
The mission of the school is to provide quality education in a caring Christian environment and to minster to our students and families regardless of their religious beliefs.
We affirm, value and respect all students and families regardless of gender, race, religion, nationality, ethnic background or sexual orientation. We celebrate the traditions of the children and families we serve and those of the diverse world we live in.

Students move, touch, feel, and manipulate real objects as they learn the correct habits and skills that are essential for fluid writing.
Handwriting Without Tears features a clean, intuitive design. Students are invited to learn our unique letter formations through child-friendly, straightforward language and large, step-by-step models that make learning each stroke simple and fun.
Handwriting plays a foundational role in reading and writing readiness, as validated by a recent Johns Hopkins School of Education efficacy study. The study looked at Handwriting Without Tears® as an evidenced-based intervention and found that the students who participated in the program averaged a more than 3-point gain between fall and spring compared to peers who did not participate in the program.

Everyday Mathematics is a research-based and field-tested curriculum that focuses on developing children’s understandings and skills in ways that produce life-long mathematical power. It is used in the Fair Lawn Public School System.
The Everyday Mathematics curriculum emphasizes:
Use of concrete, real-life examples that are meaningful and memorable as an introduction to key mathematical concepts.
Repeated exposures to mathematical concepts and skills to develop children’s ability to recall knowledge from long-term memory.
Frequent practice of basic computation skills to build mastery of procedures and quick recall of facts, often through games and verbal exercises.
Use of multiple methods and problem-solving strategies to foster true proficiency and accommodate different learning styles.
Each grade of the Everyday Mathematics curriculum is carefully designed to build and expand a student’s mathematical proficiency and understanding. Our goal: to build powerful mathematical thinkers.
