I'll admit, when we were first assigned to blog to post discussion and reflect during the course, I was apprehensive. I had little to no experience with blogging and always thought to myself, "What do I have to share with others?" As the course continued, I realized how much of an impact it can have on learning. To express your thoughts and feelings on a topic, to reflect, is a true representation of learning, at its best. I can always look back to review how the issues, trends, and technologies have evolved over the course of time...and my own beliefs.
The perception of the value of computers vary greatly from one state to the next, one district to another, and from one campus to another. It's a domino effect, and it starts from the top. If the leader of the school is pro-technology, it will evolve on the campus. Also, the more exposure students have with technology, the more accepting they are with the integration.
As teachers become more comfortable with involving computers with learning, the phase of instruction will progress, too.
Exploring the technologies of 2.0 provided a wonderful experience of "play," even when I was a little hesitant to blog and tweet. All of the experiences showed me benefits of their using in the classroom. For example, I had dabbled with Twitter some prior to the class, but didn't see how it could be used in the classroom. Oh boy, was I wrong?! All of the reflections expressed raw feelings, as vulnerable as they made me.
We highly recommend signing up for text alerts. This is used on an as needed basis for important reminders or updates.
Simply text @VAESGrade2 to the number 81010 and you're good to go!
REMIND is a wonderful tool to stay in touch with parents about news and upcoming events. It's quick, simple, and a free resource that almost anyone with a cell phone can use to keep informed. No matter if it's a schedule change, an assignment reminder, or to share a quick note about an upcoming event, you can quickly send a text message to keep parents posted of the news.
I had the privilege of sharing my knowledge with others during an EdCamp staff development. I love working with other professionals, collaborating, and learning from one another. I believe we're never too old to learn and try new things. If it's easy, you aren't challenging yourself...or your learners.
