Research and best practices support the integration of technologies into a balanced curriculum in order to provide enrichment opportunities and differentiation. Creative tools are different from drill and practice and instructional games because students aren't just recalling basic information when using them; they require our students to evaluate, compile, and synthesize information in a manner which these other methods cannot. It’s extremely important to stay informed of innovative tools that can be implemented with learning. These tools offer students a way to creatively express new learning in a novel way, all while keeping them engaged in the learning. Students look forward to applying new knowledge using captivating technologies. Making "informed decisions" is essential when incorporating a variety of technologies that support every learner in your class.

I love introducing new pieces of technology to my learners, as I've always incorporated it as a tool to enrich learning and replace worksheets. Learning about the impact when collectively integrating content, pedagogy, and technology made a huge change with the types of technology I offer my students.

Everyone had their choice of contribution and we had to be certain we were all on the same page when evaluating them for a score. It was most important that we all understood the rubric and the importance of assessing the tool using an unbiased opinion. We had to keep in mind how the technology would benefit classroom learning. This assignment is a wonderful example of, how teachers collaborate with other teachers and students do the same when given the task of group work. I enjoyed the opportunity to work with others but have the choice in what I contributed to the group. Applying a similar format with students offers many characteristics of 21st Century skills.

In this assignment, we were given the task to compare discovery learning to the traditional style of learning. Reviewing the different types of learning theories, exploring the constructiveness theory specifically, discovery learning proves to be a supported method for teaching. Opposite of the traditional style of teaching, discovery learning supports putting the student in charge of their learning. My favorite sentence from this review is, "Thus, using teaching activities and inquiry through the discovery learning method can provide more growth in academic achievement, retaining a greater amount of content, while students maintain a positive attitude on learning." This assignment was favorable because discovery learning very much relates to my own style of teaching. Also, this class allowed me to explore the different learning theories and evaluate their uniqueness with the learning of students.

Reviewing this article, and new learning from the class, reminds me that the acquisition of new technology will not improve the teaching or learning of teachers and students. The new technologies must be integrated with appropriate training for the teachers and they must be applied in an appropriate manner before implementation will be measured as a success.

Evaluation or Assessment of Learning
This reflection, written for ETEC 561, was a discussion on the topic of evaluation or assessment of learning. The artifact is important to me, and my learning, because it's an extremely important and valuable part of the learning process. As students are presented new material the teacher should assess their knowledge since all students are in different positions of the learning curve. After assessment, we can provide differentiation to meet the needs of all learners. In the end, assessment and evaluation is a key factor in determining the levels of success and targeting areas requiring intervention.
