Ag Biology
Ag Bio serves as our introductory course intended for freshman students. This course covers all major biology NGSS standards, focusing on the biological principles of living organisms, especially in the context of the amazing world of agriculture!
Students in this course receive their first introductions to SAE projects, the FFA program, and all of the amazing opportunities it has to offer.
Animal Science Pathway
CHFFA offers a 2 year animal science CTE pathway, including the following courses:
Veterinary Science - studies topics like animal anatomy, physiology, common veterinary tools and equipment, animal behavior and handling, laboratory and hospital skills, laws and ethics in relation to animals, basic pharmacology, and career exploration in the animal science field.
Animal Science - provides an in-depth study of the care, management, and production of livestock, including cattle, goats, swine, sheep, and horses. Core topics include animal selection, nutrition, reproduction, anatomy and physiology, disease prevention, and career exploration in the animal science field.
Agriscience Pathway
CHFFA offers a 2 year agriscience pathway, including the following courses:
Ag Chemistry - explores the NGSS chemistry standards including exploring the chemical properties of soil and their relationship to agriculture, plants, and animal production. It covers topics like soil formation, nutrient cycles, and the effects of fertilizers and soil amendments on crop growth, as well as atomic structure, the periodic table, chemical bonding, chemical reactions, etc.
Aquaponics - provides students with hands-on experience in a system where fish and plants are grown together, offering a practical and sustainable approach to food production. Students learn about the integrated ecosystem, scientific concepts like the nitrogen cycle, and the principles of hydroponics and aquaculture. The course often includes practical activities such as water quality testing, plant and fish care, and data analysis.
