Becoming a Google Local Guide actually happened by accident as I was trying to learn 360 photography. Looking back, it's an accident that changed my life forever. Once I got the hang of it, I realized that contributing to Google Maps is important. I, little ole' me, I help shape the map of Southwest Wisconsin. We are all global contributors!

As I became more skilled, I saw an application for Connect Live, a Google-sponsored event that celebrates a diverse group of Maps contributors. I took a shot and applied. I still remember having my daughter film my application video just 24 hours before the deadline. Sometime in April of 2019, I received word that I was accepted -- I bawled...at work.

In late 2019, I traveled to California to network, learn, and celebrate with 200 of Google Maps top contributors. We traveled to multiple Google campuses, met with Google staff, and networked -- I can't quite describe how the experience impacted this country mouse. Recap is below.
