All students at UWC Mostar study the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IBDP) and are awarded an IB Diploma recognized by universities around the world as a rigorous and prestigious pre-university course. The aim of the International Baccalaureate (IB) is to combine a liberal education in a range of disciplines with the opportunity to study a limited number of subjects in depth.
The IB diploma is awarded after two years of an in-depth study of 6 different subjects, chosen by the student, as well as a series of other requirements such as extra-curricular activities (CAS program), a course on the Theory of Knowledge, and an Extended Essay research paper (EE).
Commonly, 3 courses are taken at Higher Level (HL) and 3 at Standard Level (SL).
To obtain the IB Diploma, a student is required to choose:
a) one subject from each of the groups 1-6
b) if a student does not want to choose a subject from group 6, then a second subject can be chosen from any of the groups 1-4
All Diploma students must take a Language A course, either one offered at the college (English, Bosnian, Croatian, Serbian) or their language as a school-supported self-taught subject. (Read Self-taught Language Guide)
Examinations are graded on a scale of 1 (minimum) to 7 (maximum), and the IB Diploma is granted to students gaining a conditional minimum of 24 points. The students will be informed about all the details of the IB program by the IB Coordinator.
The students’ progress is continuously monitored, and official grading sessions are due every six weeks. At the end of each term, all the grades and full reports by subject teachers, tutors, and CAS supervisors are shared with parents/guardians via an online platform (ManageBac).
The official language of the College is English. As English is not a prerequisite for admission to UWC, students arrive with wide-ranging levels of English language proficiency. The college has established a language learning support system to assist students who lack proficiency in developing their language skills.
You will be asked to make a preliminary choice of subjects according to your personal preferences in May 2025, and the Academic team will create a schedule and get back to you for a final subject choice. This, however, does not have to be your final decision - you will have a period at the beginning of the academic year to try different classes, to determine your optimal subject combination.
Please keep in mind that there is a chance that certain combinations of subjects might not be available depending on the student demand, scheduling possibilities, and class size limitations.
After you read the subject's information below, ALL STUDENTS need to:
FILL IN THE PRELIMINARY SUBJECT CHOICE FORM BY 10.06.2025.
FILL IN THE ENGLISH PROFICIENCY FORM BY 10.06.2025. (The form should be completed by all students, no matter your level of English)
