Transfer of student to another university (with supervisor)
In the event of a staff members who acts as a supervisor leaves the university and wishes to continue supervising the student at the other university, the following information should be provided:
A letter from the student indicating that transferring is his or her preference
A recommendation from the departmental Programme committee indicating support for the application
A progress report for the student and period registered
A letter from the other university indicating that it will accept the student to continue with the programme
The student should also be informed of the financial implications regarding such a transfer.
The application should serve at the FHD and subsequently be recommended to SHD for approval. Thereafter, the Office of the Registrar can issue a formal letter of transfer. The reverse is applicable when a student transfers with a supervisor from another university.
Transfer of research and intellectual property (IP) to another university
In the event of a student wishing to transfer his or her research to another institution in fulfilment of the degree requirements, the student should submit:
a request to transfer the research (contact IP office)
letter of support from the supervisor stipulating any relevant conditions
An indication that the student has been advised of the following:
That the new institution may still require a minimum enrolment period
Ethics may need to be reapplied for
Acceptance into the new programme does not equate to the transfer of the study.
The student will need to apply to the other institution where s/he intends to register to accept the proposed study and complete the work in fulfilment of the degree requirements after UWC agrees to the transfer of the research and IP.
