Progress reports
Academic progress reports have to be submitted timeously every year (by the communicated deadlines).
The following sections of the annual progress report need to be completed:
Part A: to be completed by the student
Part B: to be completed by the supervisor
Part C: to be completed by the supervisor in consultation with the student (and attach a work plan for code 35 and 40 i.e. application for first and final extension)-- see information on extension of study period below.
BMREC annual progress reports: This no longer needs to be submitted routinely at the end of each year. Renewal of ethics should be done 3 months before the expiry date and a final progress report needs to be submitted after the degree has been awarded. Please refer to the "FORMS" tab for the necessary paperwork and additional clarification.
Extension of study period
Application for extension of registration beyond the prescribed period should be accompanied by the following information:
Period registered
Reasons for extension
A report on the progress of their study programme and time-line to completion i.e. a work plan must be included
The supervisor must include a motivation for the extension as part of the supervisor section of the progress report.
When extension is granted, the student is liable for the fees as prescribed by Council. Granting of an extension is subject to the payment of a levy determined by the registrar.
Promotion codes
Guidelines and codes for PG promotions
Progress reports need to be submitted timeously so that the correct promotion codes can be allocated to allow the student to register the following year/ to graduate. Not allocating a code leads to administrative issues which can hamper the registration process.
