All RC Scholars with the EEP/UWACAD major code are expected to engage in parallel planning until they declare a major. Parallel Planning means that a student is actively working on completing prerequisite coursework for at least 2–3 different majors, in order to keep multiple academic pathways open.
Students in the EEP/UWACAD major codes should not be solely focused on declaring one specific major, especially if that major is considered “capacity-constrained.” Being open to multiple major possibilities is a key part of the RC Scholar experience. If an RC student is only willing to pursue one capacity constrained major and is not open to exploring alternative pathways, the EEP/UWACAD pathway may not be the best fit for them.
For students whose top-choice major(s) are capacity-constrained, it is strongly recommended they identify at least one “minimum requirements” or “open” major, as well as work proactively with both the Academic Advisor/Coach and appropriate major-specific advisors, to avoid delays in major declaration. You can find more information about majors here.
Robinson Center students are not eligible for Direct Freshman Admission (DFA) to majors because they enter with admission deficiencies (CADRs). Robinson Center students declare majors along the same timeline as other UW students. UW students are expected to declare a major by the time they have earned 105 credits AND completed 5 quarters. Robinson Center students declare their majors anytime between the end of their first year and the beginning of their third year. Once Robinson Center students have completed their CADRs and major prerequisites/acceptance, they can become declared in their major.
To declare a major, Robinson Center students must contact the Robinson Center advisor to initiate the process. An online form will be generated by the major department advisor(s) and approved by the RC adviser after confirming that the student’s CADRs are complete.
Robinson Center students are encouraged to stay in regular contact with the RC adviser and department advisers to plan a course timeline that allows for CADR completion and major declaration prior to reaching 105 credits or 5 quarters.
