Information for UW Major Advisors Navigating CADR Completion Verification for RC Scholars
What are CADRs?
CADRS are the minimum requirements that students complete prior to admission to UW. They consist of the following:
Subject
University Credits required
English 20
Mathematics 15
Social sciences/social studies 15
Science, including 2 years of lab science 15
Fine, visual or performing arts 2
UW Academy and EEP (RC Scholars) students enter the University with varying levels of completion, but the majority of RC Scholar students enter the program without their CADRs completed. CADR completion and qualifying coursework is evaluated by both UW Admissions and the RC Scholars team. You can read more about CADRs here.
RC Scholars must complete their CADR requirements by the end of their second year to be prepared for major declaration. It is the responsibility of the RC Scholars program to ensure that students complete their CADR requirements, therefore, we cannot release students from the UWACAD/EEP pre-major code until their CADR requirements have been satisfied.
How are CADRs Reflected on the DARS Report?
Students who enter the University may have completed some, but not all, of their CADRs with high school coursework prior to their admission to UW. Because of this, the RC Scholars team may have "waived" a portion of the credits students are required to complete to satisfy their CADR requirements in DARS as the DARS report cannot reflect high school level coursework.
Example: A student completed two years of qualifying English coursework in high school will only have 10 credits of English coursework to complete
with UW coursework.
There are also some subject-area stipulations. Students who have completed mathematics through or beyond Algebra 2 satisfy their mathematics requirement and world language is satisfied after demonstrating proficiency through the second quarter of a language sequence. Students are also able to sit for a proficiency exam to satisfy the language requirement.
We will be uploading a list of pre-approved CADRs that will satisfy specific CADR categories. New CADR course curriculum will be reviewed and any newly approved courses will be sent quarterly to DARS to be included in future audits. It is important that any approved coursework meets specific subject area criteria.
Example: Some courses that may qualify for writing credit at UW may not satisfy CADR curriculum requirements.
Both the UW Academy and EEP DARS audit contains the same requirements. An example is below:

We are currently in the process of updating our course list. Please continue to check in with our Academic Advisor, Kaleolani Laymon, at advisingrcs@uw.edu to verify CADR completion as students move to declare majors.
Thank you for your patience and partnership as we navigate this new process.
