Inclusion in STEM : Once upon a time ...

Everyone has a story narrating the journey that brought them to where they are today. As a STEM student or professional you have a unique story that has most likely been influenced by key figures and factors in your life. This presentation shares the building blocks of story articulation that enables you to find your niche in the world of STEM. Once your interest in the field is defined from a young age, you can chart your path very intentionally in the direction you want to go with the appropriate mentorship, experiential learning, hard work and sometimes stepping outside your comfort zone. The presenter will share her story using this technique. You get to try it out, too!

Dr. Lindi Rubadiri-Mujugira is the Director of STEM Programs in the Washington MESA (Math-Engineering-Science-Achievement) State office housed at the University of Washington. She previously served as the Director of the Washington State Academic RedShirt (STARS), a College of Engineering - a two-year program that supports engineering and computer science students from low-income, first generation and underserved backgrounds as they navigate the transition to college-level courses. In her current role, she works alongside college and school district MESA directors across the state in the implementation of the program that is crucial to STEM persistence and retention.

Lindi is an engineer with a passion for STEM education and believes she has a calling to guide students on a path towards reaching their full potential.
