Although it is not the best viewing option, you are able to log in to Canvas on a mobile device using a browser if you do not have access to a computer. However, it is not recommended that you use the Canvas Parent app to login to your Observer account the first time. The instructions on the next page are for a browser interface. They will not work with the app. If you are without access to a computer or tablet, please use your mobile device's browser (e.g., Chrome, Safari, or Edge) to log in. Everything should appear as it does on a computer.
IMPORTANT
If you are using the same computer as the student, you have two options:
Option 1.
Use Guest Mode in Chrome. Click here to learn how to use Guest Mode. (If you click to learn about Guest Mode, remember to return to this browser tab to continue your training.)
Option 2.
Use a different device or a different browser (e.g., Safari or Edge) to log in.
If you are unable to login to Canvas after following the steps below, please notify your Learning Coach Partner right away.
Click the following link to navigate to our school website -- University View Academy.
The menu from the top of our school website's home page is shown in the two screenshots labeled View #1 and View #2. The width of your browser window will determine which view you see.
2. Hover over the LOGIN menu option (i.e. place the cursor over LOGIN, but do not click). The menu item is circled in the screenshot for View #1 and View #2.
3. The LOGIN menu will expand as shown.
Click "CANVAS Parent Login" from the LOGIN dropdown menu. (See the red arrows in the two screenshots.)
4. In the "Email" field (circled in the screenshot), enter the personal email address that you provided as your contact address when you registered your child.
5. Enter the password that you selected for your account. (If you forgot your password or UVA created your account for you before we converted to the method where Learning Coaches create their own accounts), skip to the "Forgot Password Instructions" section below. Click the down arrow to expand the section.)
6. Click the "Login" button.
Click the "Forgot Password?" link. (circled to the right)
Follow the prompts, and re-enter your personal email address.
Click "Request Password".
Check your email account for a message from Canvas (the sender will very likely be notifications@instructure.com), and follow the instructions to set the password that you would like to use. (If the email is not in your Inbox, check the Spam folder. Gmail subscribers, check the Promotions folder as well.)
After you select your password, wait a minute or so. Then return to the Canvas login window, and complete the login process using your email address and the password that you requested.
Click the "Login" button.
If you are unable to login to Canvas after following the Forgot Password instructions, please notify your Learning Coach Partner right away.
