Families who complete this course during the summer will be a several weeks ahead of some of our prep activities, including course scheduling. High school counselors will refine schedules as they review incoming transcript details. Therefore, a student's initial schedule might change before it is finalized.
Success at UVA is dependent upon understanding your new school, understanding what is expected, and learning how to use our platforms. Approach this onboarding course as a gateway to your success path.
Learning Coaches will receive guidance from the Learning Coach support team for the family to pace yourselves through this onboarding course. Following our pacing guidance will ensure students and Learning Coaches complete the onboarding cycle in the expected timeframe.
While you are onboarding, we are preparing our courses and platforms for our new students. This course is designed around our internal schedule.

Technology Requirements:
You may use a personal computer or tablet to take this course while waiting on the school laptop to arrive. We recommend it.
If you do not have access to a personal computer while waiting on the student's UVA laptop to arrive, please complete "Phase I -- Orientation" on a mobile device. "Phase III -- Detailed Learning Coach Training" can be completed on a mobile device as well, but a larger window will make reading a little easier. Learning Coaches might decide to repeat a few pages when a laptop is available but that section should be done on a mobile device if that's all that is available. The school laptop will arrive in time for the remainder of the course to be completed before lessons begin.
Most of Phase II requires a computer. If a computer is not available when you reach Phase II, the Learning Coach will see an instruction in large bold print to notify the Learning Coach support team about your computer status at the appropriate point.
You do not need a username or password to proceed in this course. Login instructions are provided in this course when it is time to log in to Canvas. Please do not attempt to log in to Canvas before you reach the instruction page to do so. Doing that could interfere with course preparation by our counselors and teachers.
Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge are the required computer browsers for Canvas. Please ensure you are using Chrome or Edge when you begin "Phase III -- Canvas Training."
School laptops will arrive in time Phase II to be completed. Look for an orange sticker to the left or right of the laptop’s trackpad. The sticker provides important login instructions for the laptop and Microsoft 365. Save the instructions.
Report technical issues about the school computer to our Tech Support group (also known as the "UVA Help Desk"). 225-286-1600 (Monday-Friday, 7 am-6 pm)
School supplies and materials are usually shipped after onboarding has concluded. Teachers are aware of the shipment timelines and provide access to supplemental materials electronically.
NOTE:
Supplies vary based on the student's grade level. Details about supplies and materials are available later in this course.
Learning Coaches are asked to direct issues or questions about the onboarding period (or anything related to the Learning Coach role) to the Learning Coach support team via Remind or by phone at 225-421-2837. Please note -- the Learning Coach support team seldom works directly with students.
