Hello, and welcome to CE Art 1010! I’m excited to have you in the course!
Art 1010 is a fun, fast-paced introduction to the world of art. You do not need to be an experienced or skilled artist to be successful in this course! However, because this is a college-level course, you should be prepared to stay on top of your work, participate regularly, and put time and effort into your assignments.
Throughout the course, you will:
Explore the history and development of art.
Learn about artists, cultures, and important movements in art history.
Experiment with a variety of art materials, techniques, and processes.
Develop your ability to analyze and respond to works of art.
Make connections between art, culture, history, and events happening in the world.
Practice higher-level thinking and critical thinking through discussions, projects, and reflections.
Create your own artwork and develop your understanding of the creative process.
You don't have to consider yourself an "artist" to enjoy this class. Come ready to experiment, learn, think creatively, and try new things!
Because this is a Concurrent Enrollment (CE) course, you must be enrolled with both Utah Online School (UOS) and Utah Tech University (UTU).
If you have not completed your UTU enrollment, please do so as soon as possible. There are deadlines for CE enrollment, and getting your UTU student number can take some time.
Once you are enrolled with UTU, you will receive a CE student number. You will need this number to access your UTU Canvas course and syllabus.
To view your official course syllabus:
Log in to Utah Tech University Canvas.
Use the CE student number provided to you by UTU.
Locate Art 1010 in your Canvas courses.
Open the course syllabus and review the course information, expectations, policies, and requirements.
Your UTU Canvas syllabus is the official source for college course information. Please make sure you review it carefully.
Utah Tech University provides several helpful "How-To" videos and resources for Concurrent Enrollment students. These can help you with logging in, accessing Canvas, finding your courses, and navigating UTU systems.
You can find these resources on the Utah Tech Concurrent Enrollment website.

This course is both a high school course and a college course. That means there are expectations from both UOS and UTU. Staying organized, checking your course regularly, meeting deadlines, and asking for help when you need it will go a long way toward your success.
Most importantly—don't be afraid to ask questions! I'm here to help you learn and succeed.
