About the Program

The Surgery Residency Program is a five-year program with six categorical residents per year, five chosen through ERAS and one position each year reserved for a military resident. In 2021, Boston Medical Center joined a military partnership to help train active-duty residents. The clinical training program is a hands-on experience with residents performing operations from the start of their intern year. The program graduates caring, capable physicians who are highly competent technicians. The majority of our residents pursue additional fellowship training in a wide variety of specialties, from surgical oncology to thoracic surgery. The Department of Surgery offers residents, fellows, and students a unique educational experience in a collegial environment that enables each individual to reach their full potential. Our faculty, trainees, and staff hail from all regions of the nation and the globe, and from all walks of life, reflecting the wonderful diversity of the world in which we live and the patients we care for.
