The Andover High School Trojan Marching Band is a traditional marching band; everyone who is willing to work and be a part of music is welcome! We are a diverse group of musicians and individuals and students in band have a variety of interests outside of music. The Andover High School Trojan Marching Band has an excellent reputation regionally and nationally, an honor and a tradition that continues today.
In the fall, the Andover High School Trojan Marching Band features all 9th-12th grade members of the band and our AHS Color Guard. The Trojan Marching Band will perform a challenging show which we perform at 2-3 marching festivals each year, and it is also exciting halftime entertainment for all of our home football games.
Marching Band is new for our freshmen and rookie marchers. Understandably, some are intimidated by marching, or feel that it may be too hard. We want to assure you, and generations of students before have proven this – everyone can achieve success! Upperclassmen and the band staff assist you in learning the fundamentals, learning the drill, and learning how to be part of a high school band program. We’ll teach you every step of the way!

Regular Season Home Game Night Schedule
Times and instructions will vary but here’s an example of what a typical Game Night might look like during the regular Football season:
Zero Hour Rehearsal on Game Day – Our jazz band does not rehearse on the morning of a Friday halftime performance so we can have a longer rehearsal on game days. These rehearsals take place at Trojan Stadium and will begin at 7:15 am allowing students time to get their instruments and arrive on time to the field.
Dinner on Game Days: We have a fabulous tradition of meeting for meals on Fridays of football games. We ask our band students to pay $25 and supply at least one side for the Friday meals together. Option 2 is to pay $40 and all meals are covered. Lastly, if anyone has trouble paying for meals, let us know. We want all students to be involved with our Friday football festivities!!
5:30 p.m. The students have a brief rehearsal on the baseball field. Students wear their marching band shoes and long black socks at this rehearsal
6:00 p.m. Return to the band room and begin changing into the marching band uniforms. If the weather is too warm for uniforms, we will perform in our marching band t-shirt (covered in the marching band fee) black shorts, black socks and Dinkles (marching band shoes).
6:20 p.m. Warm-up and line-up behind the school. We begin marching to the stadium at approximately 6:40 p.m.
1st Half – The band will perform cheers and fight songs in the stands during the first quarter and the first half of the 2nd Quarter.
Midway through the 2nd Quarter the band will dismiss from the stands to prepare for their halftime performance.
Halftime – We perform our marching band show. We need parent assistance to move equipment for the Front Ensemble on and off of the field.
3rd Quarter – The band receives the 3rd Quarter as their break time to get items from the concession stand and visit the restroom facilities. Students need to be careful to avoid spilling refreshments on the uniform. Front Ensemble will help load the truck with the equipment crew and staff.
4th Quarter – The band resumes playing cheers and fight songs in the stands until the completion of the game.
At the end of the game the band returns to the band room and changes out of their uniforms. Uniforms are organized on their storage racks and left in storage at AHS between performances. (Leave spaces clean and organized)
If a student must leave early from a game, a Parent/Guardian must personally check with Mrs. Griffitt before the student can leave the stadium. No exceptions.
Performing in the stands is a mandatory part of the football game as a marching band member. You are the ones that bring the spirit and excitement with your cheers and enthusiasm. Students are expected to remain in the band section for the duration of the 1st, 2nd, and 4th quarters, as well as overtime if the game continues. Students who choose to not follow these directives will receive a letter grade deduction for that performance.
Special event nights, such as Homecoming and Senior Night, will have adjusted schedules.
