How To Be A Successful Student in Room 106

Whenever you feel the need to ask how you can improve your grade, look at this checklist.

Are you doing everything on this list? All the time?

If you are not getting the grade you think you deserve, your worth ethic needs some work.

This list tells you exactly what Mrs. Harris means by work ethic.

  • I thoroughly read outside assignments & came prepared for discussion.

  • I participated in class in a meaningful way.

  • I completed all assignments reflectively & on time.

  • I kept my handouts organized in my personal folder/binder/spiral and in Google Drive as the teacher directed.

  • I formatted assignments as directed.

  • I read again the selections after we read or discussed them in class.

  • I reflectively read or listened to the comments my teacher provided about my assignments & asked if I didn’t understand.

  • I know the literary terms, persuasive techniques, roots-prefixes-suffixes, & text types/structures/features like I know the ABC's.

  • I did assignments another time when allowed.

  • When revising an item, I worked on taking out & adding things—I did not just edit.

  • I followed guidelines for peer critiques.

  • I used notes/texts on tests when allowed.

  • I studied the vocab. I used online reviews.

  • I filled out the optional review sheets for tests & studied them.

  • I brought needed materials to class.

  • I practiced oral presentations & speeches.

  • I respected the technology used.

  • I checked my grade.

  • I used some sort of system for keeping track of homework.

  • I tried my best on the problem of the day/week.

  • I met my AR goals related to my independent reading.

  • I consulted the teacher’s website or LiveBinder & shared Google Drive folders often to find helpful resources & to know due dates & assignments.

  • For make-up work, I checked my email & the make-up work tray for paper/pencil items. I completed work in a timely manner.

  • If I lost a paper, I checked the website & the extra copies pile before asking the teacher.

  • I followed guidelines for cooperative learning activities & brain breaks, and review games.

  • I proofed my work.

  • I practiced misspellings.

  • I know how to navigate the teacher’s web site & other online resources & have taught my parents as well.

  • I have an appropriate level of concern regarding the state tests for ELA.

  • I have a study buddy in my block.
