LMC Stats

The Library Media Center (LMC) has 8,945 print materials in the current collection. The LMC also provides access to over 1,200 ebooks and audiobooks which students can access from anywhere. Lastly, the LMC also provides students with access to makerspace kits, overnight laptops, cameras, and other technology equipment which students can check out to use outside of the LMC. The LMC also circulates over 5,000 textbooks to students each year for a variety of classes.

Students are able to check out up to 5 library items at a time. Often times if a student needs more items for a class assignment the limit on items is waived to support their learning. However, students with excessively overdue items are encouraged to return all late items before borrowing more to ensure their library fees are manageable. While the UCSD libraries no longer charge late fees, student are charged for lost or damaged items, so they can be replaced for future student use.

The LMC adds roughly 350 books to the print collection each year to maintain a current and engaging collection of reading materials for students and teachers with a goal of reaching 13,000 unique titles (roughly 10 books per student) within the next 5 years. The best libraries in America have twenty unique titles per student. The LMC also regularly 'weeds' or selectively removes titles from the collection which have been damaged, have not been read /used in a long time, or contain inaccurate information to make space for the new titles. Unlike archival libraries, the LMC's purpose is to provide contemporary information on a variety of topics, which students will use regularly.

Urbandale Public Library

In collaboration with the Urbandale Public Library, UHS students now also have access to the large collection of materials that UPL provides. Students with a UPL card can request items to be delivered to UHS and may also return any UPL item to UHS drop boxes.
