New Visions - Math - Comprehensive and detailed curriculum that includes unit and lesson plans, pacing guides, and student-facing materials such as handouts and practice problems.
Provides students with notes and prior classwork related to the curriculum but doesn’t offer additional resources for independent perusal.
Due to its comprehensive nature, teachers should familiarize themselves with the offerings before launching any units.
Khan Academy - Online platform that empowers students to learn on their own through lessons, videos, and practice problems.
Students must answer five questions correctly to level-up, and can take quizzes and play games to level-up as well. This makes for engaging content.
Content has a mixed degree of rigor. Hints are provided for all problems, but there aren’t resources beyond them
Videos can only be accessed via YouTube and may be confusing to navigate.
Students must set up and link their own account to their teachers’ classrooms
To save time and frustration, consider creating the account for students and linking in advance
NJ Center for Teaching and Learning - Math - Provides well-organized, comprehensive slide decks, student materials, and other interactive activities for all subjects.
Great starting point to deliver content, but teachers may want to supplement with videos and zoom discussions to bring these materials to life and to increase mastery because the content (while stright-forward) is not very engaging.
Students can practice via classwork and homework assignments but may need additional guidance, as directions are not always clear.
Teachers are provided tests and re-tests for all units
Detroit Public Schools Take Home Packets - Math - Grade 5 | Grade 6 | Grade 7 | Grade 8
PDF packets of iReady activities the provide a range of K-8 practice for all subjects
This is a great resource, in particular, to supplement middle school instruction and / or if technology is not available in student homes
Activities mimic state tests and MAP passages.
Answer keys are provided so that students can check their own work but because of the PDF format, the only way they can receive immediate feedback is if teachers provide a separate channel for them to submit responses.
Instructions for these home packets are at times unclear, so teachers should be prepared to offer additional guidance
Students are able to complete plenty of practice that is provided to them by the teacher
The website allows you to set up online classes and assign students problems they are able to solve independently
Teacher can track mastery % of the standard by seeing accuracy of the assignments created
Assignments have clear instructions and are easy to complete
Level of rigor is varied across the skills, but overall is well aligned to Regents problems, although the language of the problems are not necessarily aligned
Provides students with a graphing calculator tool
This is recommended to SUPPLEMENT instruction, but this requires a mini-lesson that is done through video, and requires you to be available for questions, as the website does not provide much support for students who are struggling
Purplemath and Mathhelp.com - Students use Algebra exercises on Math Help to complete assignments they read on PurpleMath.
Purplemath provides detailed step-by-step instructions on a certain topic, including conceptual understanding behind each explanation.
Once completed reading the description, students are then directed to Mathhelp in which they must answer 7 questions to practice the skill they just learned
If stuck, students can view a video of a teacher explaining the concept. Video is clear and comprehensive
Once completed with the 7 questions, students then take a test to determine overall mastery. Students receive immediate feedback on their answers, and the teacher receives the data.
Mathhelp requires a different sign on process in which students must sign up ahead of time and link to your account.
Explanations can be challenging to be read aloud, and layout of website can be challenging to follow.
Groupings and performance reports are limited for mathhelp, and challenging for data-driven purposes.
The way topics are broken down can be challenging to follow and assign it to students.
Purplemath is very good as an additional resource for struggling students. But is not recommended as a primary teaching tool.
CK-12 - Textbooks that are organized by topic, easy to access, and accompanied by embedded videos and photos.
Grade 6 Math | Grade 7 Math | Grade 8 Math | Algebra | Geometry | Probability | Statistics | Trigonometry | Math Analysis | Pre-Calculus | Calculus | Algebra II
Signing up for an account is free and easy.
All resources are available in Spanish and some in Korean, Dutch, and Chinese
Students can annotate as they read, and their notes / highlights are saved for review.
Each section comes with review questions.
Kim Marshall Math Concepts and Skills - Book A | Book B
Various handouts on math concepts and skills.
Worksheets support practice with skill and drill.
As with all high quality teaching, this resource is best when accompanied by a mini-lesson that explicitly teaches the material.
JMAP - JMAP provides a large resource of Regents questions dating back to 2013 and broken down by standard/year, which can be helpful for Regents Prep or to supplement classroom assignments.
Practice questions are rigorous and aligned to the rigor of the Regents exam
Provides an opportunity to create worksheets for students, including assessments, all of which include straightforward instructions
When students are stuck, they are not provided with additional resources (videos, hints) if they need additional resources
Albert - Free for Algebra - Practice Questions and Whole Class Modules for student learning
Provides students with practice questions leveled by rigor and aligned with the Regents that can be assigned to the class using a portal
This resource, although interactive, does not have the most engaging and robust content in the internet.
Students receive immediate feedback on their work, including rationale for correct/incorrect responses, and the % of students who have answered that question correctly
You can track the results, including completion and mastery of these questions in real time
Use this as supplemental independent practice or separate “Regents Prep”
Does not provide additional resources for students who are struggling
